It was pointed out that the 2 witness rule that Jehovah`s Witnesses rely on is thousands of years old.

What was not said but implied was ,

How would society today benefit if we didn`t progress with our Legal Systems and still maintained laws that were thousands of years old.

It is not just wrong, it is beyond thinking that you would defend inaction.
    berrygerryJ.
JohnAmos does not advocate inaction, he/she calls for the Primary caregiver to give care, to report, to take rapists rapidly out of circulation by the people with the handcuffs, and
regarding the 2 witness rule, Is not "The Father" supposed to be a witness of even a sparrow falling, counting perhaps the numbered p---c hair missing from a rapist? so where is the "spirit direction" claim of the organisation to let these tragedies repeating?

So someone who has been failed by their parents goes to men she trusts, and that excuses them for failing her too? Excuses them for inflicting even more trauma upon her with their judicial process? Excuses them for absolute inaction knowing that they were sending her home to a violent man who was sexually abusing her and her sisters? Excuses them for ignoring her sisters? Excuses them for ignoring the man's own confession? Excuses them for not even having the basic common sense to report this to the police?

Remember that this is a religion where the elders are your first place to go to when in need. That you have an obligation to report 'serious sin' to them. That to 'drag Jehovah's name through the mud' is frowned upon in the extreme and so presents a major obstacle to reporting to the police.

Yes, things should go to the police. That's the point. One failure does not excuse another. It is not good enough to try and shirk the responsibility which is taken on when you become an authority in someone's life.

    WOAE: fascinating thread. Thanks.

DOC: haven't they already been lining up for some time now? Haven't there been dozens of hushed-up payouts?

    d4g:

AM III would not have mentioned the above quote in a broadcast a few months back, were that not the case.

Right on! They are definitely running scared, as those TV broadcast comments show. In their minds they're digging in. Some may well be expecting this to be the issue that leads to the big A.

Sometimes I think that another part of the problem is that the WTS is - in many ways - stuck with a 1950s mentality.

Back in the 50s, this kind of thing was swept under the carpet far more often than it is now, simply because those in authority believed it would panic the general public and undermine their confidence in the social constructs of the time.

The WTS thrived in the 50s because it was extremely well-adapted to the social environment of the that era, but they convinced themselves that it was actually due to "Jehovah's blessing"... as a result, that mindset became very, very entrenched.
