    nowaytess,

First off this isn't the best place to air out your disgruntled views on the Christian Church many here on this board are Jesus haters and will use your complaint to give justification in thier continued rebllion and hatred of Jesus Christ and his church.

Have you discuss this issue with the leadership of your church? That is the first place you should go.

As far as the tiething issue goes maybe 10% percent is still the standard. No where in the New Testement that the 10% tiething standard was abrageted (taken away). Remeber The church is God's covenant people of promise. The same promise that was given to Abraham then to given to Moses and then David is the same promise given to us. As covent people we should tieth and give our money to his people the church. As for 10% even if you don't give 10% God does love a cheerfull giver. If you can't give cheerfully then that is between you and the Lord and maybe you can go to the church for prayer and counsel on the issue. But rember God's grace is greater than any situation that we are in if it is a sin issue or a lack of joy issue. Maybe it may be a church leadership issue.

If you don't like your situation try to work it out biblically with your elders, if you disagree with your church then leave and find another church that tieths correctly and teaches the bible faithfully but try to do this if all means possable with the blessings of your church elders and on good terms,

    2Cor 9:7

7 Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

    cheers and blessings,

    jr

By giving the first hour (1/40) of our pay our parish has plenty, to maintain buildings, cars, full time workers, and new projects. If everyone did it we'd have money coming out our ears, and we'd look at giving less. The idea is to give enough to run the place. As for the poor etc, that's a whole other trip.

My opinion on Christian churches and tithing 10% is that they are just another con, run by men who use Jesus to get rich. Same old revival scam, new tent.

It's just another scam kids. .

the above comments are so sad, but so true-

i saw a group of preachers on a round table discussion of this issue and the question was DO YOU GIVE ON THE NET OR THE GROSS income\

    smile

in Alexandria VA there is a church and i recall cause i used to use the article in the paper in a public talk and in this church to become a member you MUST SUBMIT YOUR W2- tax form to the Deacon Board, and this way they will know how much you are SUPPOSE to be giving to the church

now you would think that folks would be pissed at thier church for asking for such personal records

o no not true believers in fact A THEY ARE PROUD this church caters to alot of the new anchors, high level miltary guys, professors and UPPER CLASS BLACK FOLKS- they are so proud it is almost as if they are saying:

"WE BE MAKING SOME MONEY AND CAN Now GIVE more TO THE "LARD""

this is a funny post, this poster must be joking,

to go and discuss the issue with the very guys who are benifiting from the program is like asking the GBs to leave bethel and come on the outside and get a job

wake up folks in too many case the 10% rule is a nice way to live a good life, while all don't your big time preachers do HOW DO YOU THINK THEY BECAME BIG TIME

let me give you and example

2months ago TD Jake (Big Boy out of TX) flew in to washington dc for a conference with local ministers, from the tri state area, and Philly

it was reported in the paper and alot of minister were pissed off that the nature of the meeting got out, while others were pissed at the nature of the meeting-

anyway he invited preachers and their wives $50 a pop and there were 2000 folks there

he gave a 2 hour speech and as one minister stated to the washington post a hour and a half was spent on HOW TO RUN YOUR MINISTRY LIKE A BIZ

he explained how to market tapes, books and conferences JUST LIKE THE ONE YOU ARE AT

HE PICKED UP $100,000 IN 2 HOURS, DROPPED OFF $25,000 for the church/pastor who hosted and got back on his Lear Jet at national airport and flew back to dallas with a cool $75,000 probably most in cash and checks

    you got to love religion

DAMN --me and Lady "C" need to start us a church

I, actually, am glad Tess posted HERE on this subject. I recently heard at mass (which I was attending with my Catholic husband and son) that the Israelites were required to tithe and that JESUS said to give a tenth to the church. I didn't recall ever reading this in the New Testament -- certainly not out of Jesus' mouth, but not even as a requirement shared by any of the other NT writers. Does any Christian here know what NT SCRIPTURE is thought to indicate this? Or what the NT reasoning is on this?

I am very excited to be able to feel better about donating to the poor, medical research, the disabled since leaving the Witnesses. And we give more each Sunday at church than I gave when I attended the KH and my husband didn't GO to church. I have been a recipient of Catholic charity, and figure that now that I'm in a position to pay back, why not? But we certainly aren't giving 10% of gross OR net income. Nor do we feel obligated to.

I am, however, curious about the justification the churches find for requesting/requiring this of their members.

MUCH LIKE in wt the gb/leaders take a few bible text stir them up in a stew and like magic they got new dogmas

going out in service EVERY WEEKEND. reading all your latest mags, etc

all you are seeing is that other religions do the same things - make up stuff that benifits no one but those in leadership roles

same old song and dance, instead of being classical music it's rap as it were

I'm probably in the minority here (again), but I do believe in tithing. But, what I think is more important is being a cheerful giver. Many churches, including mine, have outreach ministries that feed and clothe those in need so sharing what you have with others becomes special to the giver.

The whole issue of Churches constantly asking for more and more money and billing its members for tithes (yes, some churches do this!) is part of the reason I started the TBN thread. Last week they were having their fund-raiser/rally/revival/tent meeting/whatever and, of course, the topic of the messages all week was guess what........GIVING. While I was uplifted by the testimonies, (I love to hear some good preachin') I was also disappointed in the message, "If you don't give, God won't do anything else for you!"
