As the WTS makes such a sacred cow out of reporting field service and each publisher has a record card I am confident the figures given for the number of JWs is accurate. It also tallies with events such as the build-up to 1975 and the 'great disappointment'.

When we purchased a new Kingdom Hall, a few years back, legal contracts were exchanged to purchase the property BEFORE asking the congregation to vote on purchasing or not ! When I brought up this matter a few years later, I was told (by the P.O.) that I had got it wrong, as he had looked into it. Little does he know that I have got a tape recording of that meeting, with his voice actually participating in the item. Lying comes so easy when youv'e had plenty of practice.

Perhaps some will wonder as to where the line is to be drawn between use of theocratic war strategy in hiding the truth and the telling of lies. ................Lies are untruths told for selfish reasons and which work injury to others. Satan told a lie to Eve that worked great harm to her and all the human race. Ananias and Sapphira told lies for selfish reasons. But hiding the truth, which he is not entitled to know, from an enemy does not harm him, especially when he would use such information to harm others who are innocent. May 1, 1957 p 285

Dear Jay,

No, it isn't a joke. It's not a laughing matter. I was told this as I was growing up and I BELIEVED every bit of it for the first 35 years of my life. That's the really sad part. To know that for 35 years of my life I thought that way and had such FAITH and TRUST in them, and then to find out that I, and six million other people, really had no HOPE at all. It was gone overnight, and a piece of me died with it. That's the really sad thing about it.
