A question from Realist on another thread prompted me to want to ask the board if our members believe in astrology. Here is my response on the subject and your comments are welcome, as always.

    Robdar,

plaese tell me you don't believe in astrology!

    Realist,

I have no opinion regarding astrology. For the most part, I have no opinion about most things considered to be metaphysical. I have had my own experiences and agree with Granny that if we live our life, it sometimes brings forth experiences that cannot be easily explained.

Whereas I have experimented with lucid dreaming, meditation and self hypnosis, I have never bothered to study astrology charts. Still, throughout the years, I have picked up some information from my friends who are totally into astrology. I do not tell them that they are stupid because they are not. Some of them are very educated. And besides, I cannot prove or disprove astrology. I believe in letting people believe what they wish.

As a matter of fact, I have an aquaintance, a former JW and an attorney who still maintains his license to practice in another state on the west coast, who has his own astrolgy column that is featured in newspapers throughout the USA. He is a highly intelligent man and he makes a very good argument supporting his belief in astrology.

I do find it ironically funny that most people who scoff at astrology still know what their birth signs are. Of course, I usually dismiss that to ego. We all love talking about and learning about ourselves. To me, it's all good.

So, Baby, what's your sign? Is astrology possible? Is it silly? Or, like me, do you keep an open mind and your mouth shut around others who believe?

    Thank you for your comments.

    Robyn

BTW, I'm a Taurus, Libra ascendant, Cancer moon.

I'm skeptical about it personally. For it to work I'd have to believe that something about the relative position of the planets and our Moon has a physical effect on people. If, say, some type of radiation that entered our solar system from the outside was modified in some way, so that each planet adds or detracts from this radiation in some way, and that intermix affects the just-born individual, then I could buy it. And that's not to say science won't be able to verify that. It could happen, so they (believers) could be right.

I agree with Robdar that if someone's beliefs don't make them a danger to me, my loved ones, or anything else I value, and any harm done is to the believer alone, then it doesn't matter to me what they believe. This is my interpretation of what she was saying in her post.

I haven't made a habit of reading my horoscope. And it could be argued they're written so vaguely that almost anything could be read into them. I'm beginning a study of Tarot cards to decide for myself whether or not there's anything to it. Looking forward to it.

    Just my pre-tax $.02.

I had pointed out to me once that my profound disbelief in astrology was simply a metaphysical response of my latent skeptisim carried by all Gemini's being exacerbated by Leo entering Taurus.

That cleared things up for me.

    OMG, that is hilarious.

I agree with Perry, I think all Astrology is baloney, I'm a typical Gemini in that respect.

I am a believer in astrology when one looks at the ancient pryimad and see the exact astrological aligment to the sun moon and stars and the precession with which stonehenge is build one can not deny ancient civilizations were more intune to astrology than what we are. Some times when I look into the sky I wish I could understand the astrological signs. I am scorpion. I just look under astrology.com and got a profile of myself, it was quite interesting. I learned quite a bit about my self, but I already knew these things about myself. However I found it hard to understand why they would understand me. That part is freaky.

If you are a true believer, you may unconsciously make things happen so that they agree with your chart.

I get horney as hell on a full moon ......so in a way I think there is some truth in it.

Seriously, I think there is some science behind the idea. Peoples moods change with colors, music, settings, so why not with celestial arrangments?

We eat at a chinnese resteraunt that has placemats that tell you what animal you are depending on the month you were born. A monkey, dog, goat.....etc. It will tell you which months do not get along as companions. Talk about accuracy!..... It's almost spooky how close it gets if not right on.

As far the stars and planets go, having an effect on humans..I think it's mathmatics and science.....not some astrological demonised unseen power behind it all.

I am of two minds regarding astrology. My rational mind rejects it totally. My "fun" self, abetted by Richard Hickman (whom some of you know and who is really into it) really likes fooling around with it. I have used it as an ice-breaker successfully for years, or at least I did when I was a single guy !

My sun and moon are in Pisces, Libra rising, Mercury in Aries, Venus in Tarus, Mars in Aquarius, and Saturn in Virgo (for the personal planets). What would you who know about this stuff think about this configuration? I can tell you that I'm intuitive to the point of second sight. I'm amazed at the stuff that I just "pick up" out of the air about other people and what they're thinking and doing and such. And I'm further amazed at how accurate it all is.
