Fat people suing McDonalds

Wellll I don't recall anyone having a lung removed after eating a Big Mac, but maybe I am missing something.....

A lot of people became addicted to tobacco before anyone (outside the companies that produced it)KNEW it was addictive or that it caused cancer. So when I guess when they discover McDonald's food is an addictive substance that is the sole cause of a death dealing disease and start putting warning labels on it your example might fit...

asortafairytale, I saw that Mad TV skit. That cracked me up.

Yeah it's a stupid lawsuit. The fat content of their food is readily available and it's widely known to be unhealthy. That goes for fried foods in general. Healthy food may be a little more expensive but not prohibitively. Beans and rice are quite cheap and readily available. A head of lettuce and some tomatoes can be picked up at the supermarket quickly and can be cut into a salad in no time flat. There's no excuse for not eating healthy. There's no one to blame but one self. And this from a guy who's a bit overweight himself. But that's because of my own choices. No one else's. In order to get to a more healthy weight it will take a consistent and permanent change in diet and a consistent and permanent regiment of physical activity.

I ride a bike to work. So I suggest suing the car companies for making me sit on my butt's all these years.

On the topic of tobacco, I felt that was a stupid lawsuit also. I don't feel any sorry for the tobacco companies, but they didn't force anyone to smoke either.

I also think this is ridiculous, they didn't have to be brought there as often as they did. some people are always looking for someone else to blame and a little law suit happy.

"But your honor, those quarter pounders with extra cheese were just SHOVING THEMSELVES DOWN MY THROAT! THE FRIES HELD ME HOSTAGE, while the cherry pies waited their turn to follow the 1/4 pounders!!!"

"and the Sausage Buiscuits with egg????? They were the lookouts."

And I don't recall anyone having a colostomy because they smoked. What's your point? Both are bad for you, and both are voluntary acts.

A lot of people became addicted to tobacco before anyone (outside the companies that produced it)KNEW it was addictive or that it caused cancer.

Maybe, but most of them are dead now and they aren't suing anyone. We've known for a long time, at least since the 1960's and I think the 1950's, that smoking was bad for you and was linked to cancer. I'm 50 (no spring chicken), and I can't remember a time when I didn't know that there was a connection between smoking and cancer. So anyone who could argue that they got addicted before anyone knew it was bad for you would have to be pretty old now.

So when I guess when they discover McDonald's food is an addictive substance that is the sole cause of a death dealing disease and start putting warning labels on it your example might fit...

Neither fast food nor tobacco is the sole cause of any disease. You have a lot better chance of getting lung cancer if you smoke, but there are still some unlucky souls who get it even though they've never smoked in their lives. And the lack of warning labels is another point in favor of my argument. Tobacco users can't even claim that they weren't warned, as fast food eaters can. So why should the tobacco users be able to recover damages when they were warned, right on every wrapper, what might happen if they used this stuff?

I'm not arguing in favor of the tobacco companies here. The point I'm trying to make is that the lack of personal responsibility in our society is becoming increasingly absurd. Everybody's a victim. If you smoke, you're a victim of the tobacco companies. If you eat too much fast food, you're a victim of McDonald's. If you're injured by a drunk driver, you're a victim of the lliquor manufacturers, or the bar or liquor store where the guy bought his booze. If you hit your thumb with a hammer, you don't tell yourself to be more careful the next time, you sue the manufacturer of the hammer. If a burglar breaks into your home to rob you and gets injured while he's there, he's a victim too, and he can sue you for damages. It's utterly insane, and the courts keep going along with this sort of thing.

Personally, I think the overweights will win their case, and you probably will see warning labels on fast food eventually. What's next after that? Processed foods? Watch out, Spam!!

    "warning labels on fast food"

Yup, sure as shit you can bet that will happen. At the rate we're going, we'll eventualy have to spend 5 minutes unwraping our burger 'cause they'll need a newspaper to fit all the warnings and cautions on it. Like anyone is gonna read that crap anyway. Anyone out there listen to the 30 seconds of speed-speak at the end of car commercials on the radio? Anyone read the micro-print at the bottom of the TV screen telling us vital information about MSRP? Of course not. It's just a bunch of crap that companies need so they can have a legal defense when brainless wonders like these McDonalds nazis come a-suing. I hope McDonalds counter-sues and that the judge gives them 10 years on the charge of severe idocy.

After reading the above article I have consulted with an attorney, and it appears I have a case. So, just to let you know Simon, although it pains me, I believe I have suffered much because of this board. It is my intention to sue

#1 - Bill Gates for marketing the "computer" to which it became necessary for me to purchase - with absolutely no warnings to how addictive it would become.
#2 - The fast food/carry-out companies - for the unnutritious meals I have consumed, making me gain 5 lbs in the last 2 months.
#3 - Simon for creating a website that he should have known all us ex-JW's would become addicted to. He should have first consulted some psychologists before creating such a thing.

My family is suing the above as well for the following:
#1 - Alienation of their mother/wife's affections - all she does is "feed her habit"
#2 - The fact that the person who used to do all their laundry, cook all their nutritious meals and take care of all the housework - well because of her "addiction" - that was through no fault of her own" - they do not get said services provided to them.

Simon, I am willing to settle this out of court - before it gets out of hand. If you wish, please email me so we can take care of this matter.

Now, I'm off to target Simon.
