Like you, I work for corporate legal and I am in contact on a daily basis with lawyers and some barristers. My experience with lawyers in general has been on a more positive level, probably similar to your own. I have seen corruption, especially in the court system, but I have also seen integrity.

Lawyers will look at every angle they can think of to support their argument and discredit the oppositions argument, that's what they are trained to do, it does not mean they are all[bold my own]crooked.

I have to agree with you, with emphasis on the "all". Some are corrupt, no doubt about that, but not all, that is with the assumption that:

    Definition

    "Crooked" means corrupt.

As for JW lawyers, well I think that they are part of a corrupt religion, and with this in mind combined with the highly recognised fact that most (not ALL) lawyers are corrupt, there seems to be a certainty that they are double dipping in the corruption bucket. But like you, I do not classify all lawyers as such....though I am not resisting the concept that some are indeed crooked and corrupt.

I STRONGLY DISAGREE with those on this thread that claim that ALL lawyers are crooked. To say ALL are crooked is a comment made out of ignorance and stupidity.

My line of work brings me into contact with virtually all the law firms in NZ and by far the majority are honest, hardworking professionals. It's true there are SOME crooked lawyers, just as there are crooked individuals in all trades & professions. It's a bit unfair to paint everyone with the same brush don't you think.

Let's maintain some rationality here shall we.

    Mackin.

Many are guilty of slandering the victims and also people like Barbara Anderson. When elders, lawyers and WT reps get up and say that people are "disfellowshipped for many reasons, like fornication, adultery, etc," they try to imply that people like Barbara were immoral.

I know a brother (not involved with pedophile issues) was df'd for gambling and because no one talked about it, people assumed he was cheating on his wife or doing drugs. The WT loves for you to be "grossed out" by people who are disfellowshipped!

Francois and others here have made a generalization about the honesty of lawyers and JWs, yet there is no empirical basis for their claims. Is their hatred for lawyers attributable to incidents in their own lives where they've failed to exercise proper judgment and gotten burnt as a result?

Francois, it's obvious you have a lot of pain likely resulting from your exposure to the Witnesses. However, that doesn't excuse the unprovoked, hostile personal attack you made against Downunder. We've all experienced a lot of hell as a result of our past and present JW associations - some worse than others. That shouldn't influence the manner in which you treat others.

Monster, you seem upset that lawyers are "in it for the money." I wonder what you work for? Do you volunteer all of your time, or do you expect to be paid for working? If you aren't a full-time volunteer, then isn't it a bit hypocritical for you to gripe that lawyers get paid for their work?

Since you asked: I work as a volunteer for childeren in the community I don't get paid, I own my own business putting my own money in there & putting most of it in the commuity, I don't twist facts like I have seen lawyers do just to win a case, lawyers will slide on their bellies to win a case the hell with anything else. I NEVER met a lawyer who was in it just to do a good deed or in your words volunteer.

This is a damn computer I don't have a F@cking thing to be hypocritical about and that's just being honest. thank you.

    Peace James.
