Leave Farkel alone. He's not bothering anyone.

    Mini,

Nobody's even talking about Farkel here, you little piece of choclate!

Now go dance a new routine, where you have a least read the script.

As I read Derrick's post I get the impression that he is calling for objectivity when discussing the JWs. I think that is a good approach. I do think that some good came from my being raised as a Witness. It was not all bad. As far as a ping pong analogy, I think that such an exchange is useful if it leads to civil debate. When it leads to personal attacks, I think it diminishes the players and the onlookers. So, never exchange gun fire at the ping pong table - smile.

The same could be said of kids being raised in Catholic families or any other religion. It could also be said of kids being raised by non-religious parents who just are decent human beings. And there are many of them out there.

I objectively believe the borg is a cult. The best thing about it is I am out of it.

Regardless of how "objective" you want to be all of the positive aspects of the WTS are far overshadowed by other religions much less other cults. Hell, there is a cult up here that worships Faeries and they take it dead ass serious. But their not harming anyone and they seem to be happy so let them have at it. The only positive thing I got from the WTS is the ability to memorize scriptures and have the ability to see the bible for what it really represents. Also, when the negative aspects outweigh the positive then the positive aspects become irrelevent (much like the WTS).

Celia, I am sure that could be said of any group as you point out. Of course, some of my being comes from my genetics, some from my parents individuality, and some from the culture outside the religion that I was raised. Nonetheless, there are some specific aspects unique to my Witness upbringing that I found useful to me later in life.

Dearest Rick... as always, peace to you... and may I ask:

Isn't promising people life... while all the while "shutting up the kingdom of the heavens before them..." sort of like a dope pusher selling you heroin and telling you it's gonna make you feel good? I mean, apparently it's true: it's does make you feel good... but the TRUTH is that rather than GIVE you life... ultimately it will COST you your life. Look at the "victims", Rick.

And what you are doing is the same: trying "balanced" view of "dope pushers"... who sell dreams to those looking for pleasure for their FLESH... all the while knowing that what they're selling will kill them... in the end... but not caring 'cause they're making a "killing" themselves.

Did you not read and can you not hear that even a LITTLE "leaven"... ferments the WHOLE lump? Or was Christ just spouting more rhetoric like some others we know about?

Religion... in whatever form it takes... is the "opium" of the masses, Rick. It provides the "sleep" that earthling man uses to keep earthling man... under his control.

    THINK, please...

    Again, I bid you peace.

Your servant and a slave of Christ,

    SJ

Thank you. I appreciate knowing you understood the post's purpose, and your candor in commenting about your experience growing up as a Witness to Jehovah.
