If you talk in another language people will think you are smart because they are clueless

    Yep! See (2) below.

    Overheard in the John

    Umberto Eco the Wise opined:
Whenever a poet or preacher, chief or wizard spouts gibberish, the human race spends centuries deciphering the message.

    Retorted the Polytheist angrily:
My gods are too advanced for your finite mind. That is why you think of it as gibberish.

    The monotheist interjected:
[[ usual material ridiculing the polytheist, while still retaining the basic thrust of the polytheist's contention, omitted ]]

Stephen L. Roberts the atheist pointed out to the monotheist:
I contend that we are both atheists. It is simply that I believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, then you will understand why I dismiss yours.

    Focus irreverently butted in with:
But - hedging my bets - just in case, somehow, the set of gods is non-empty, I want its members to answer to me for a thing or trillion.

Mark Twain, with an abundance of semicolons, praises The Babble:
It is full of interest. It has noble poetry in it; and some clever fables; and some blood-drenched history; and some good morals; and a wealth of obscenity; and upwards of a thousand lies.

The fact that a believer is happier than a sceptic is no more to the point than the fact that a drunken man is happier than a sober one. The happiness of credulity is a cheap and dangerous quality. -- George Bernard Shaw

I need to start using that quotation for my signature LOL!

This comment unquestionably applies extremely well to a few of our resident JW.com nutcases. Shelby aka AGuest comes to mind.

I particularly enjoyed this comment as well:

Believers often resort to ad-hominem attacks and presume (believing in God qualifies one as a psychologist and prophet?) that those who do not believe in God are unhappy, hopeless and miserable. They do this in a feeble attempt to justify their own position so as to convince themselves that any who differ from their belief system are incapable of existing with contentment. JW's do the same thing in reference to "worldly" people.

Just my 2c for the evening.
