I have not seen any ridiculing here. If having someone question things you believe is akin to ridiculing you then you should possibly re-examine the situation.

    COMF,

When I said 'by and large' I ment most people. Now, because I don't know you I cannot say for all certainty how you or anybody would react individually to extreem circumstances. I can't say how I would react placed in similar conditions.

    However

I believe it reasonable to conclude, by observation, that people, when considered as a group, the majority of them, will most-likely seek a divine source of incouragement and help in time of crisis.

It's all a matter of perspective.

Stand inside the house and you only see the rooms.

Back up 50 feet and you can see the whole house.

Go up 1 mile and you can see the whole city.

Go up 10,000 miles and you can see the whole planet, and so on. Perspective.

My perspective is that the majority of humans living on earth will, at some point in their lives, turn to God when faced with a major crisis. Mabey even more so. Yes this is an opinnion, but one I believe has substancial credibility.

    Donkey,

Questioning someone about their beliefs and flatout telling someone that their belief is wrong are two different things.

Some of the previous comments were oozing with sarcasm, they were NOT simply questioning someones beliefs. Im not saying that YOU said these things but I think you are aware of which ones Im referring to.

Frankly, Im not sure what I believe anymore. I do know that I will NEVER again act as if I know it all. I did at one point and guess what? I was wrong. Im not a witness anymore and refuse to behave like one.

Is there any difference between the man who insists he knows that God exists and the man who insists he knows that God does not?

This is a very good point.

It is possible to take non-belief of a god and turn it into belief that there is no god.

    Donkey,

Denying your heavenly father and creator means you don't even know who you are. A physically embodied spirit creature. You choose to believe that you are some distant cousin of an ape rather than you are a uniquely created son of God with a divine nature in his image. No wonder you get depressed. You need to find yourself by finding God. To see God you must only open your spiritual eyes (faith). Stop being blind. There is none so blind as he that will not see. Stop being a Donkey :).

That's right Donkey! You need to open your eyes of faith and accept the Pink Unicorn into your heart.

I hate the though of you spening eternity in the great pot of horse glue. I would much rather see you spend eternity with me in the great fields that are turning greener and greener for all eternity.

Debates about spiritual ideas versus simple materialism WILL NOT go on forever
in the human field of thought - they will end in the next few decades.

    Why?

Because REDUCTIONISM will (and is) failing as a means of explaining the world around
    us. Specifically:

Life, its forms, and its abilities cannot be reduced to a mere genetic code.
( The genes Do Not contain a complete blueprint for a living animal/human)

Physics cannot be reduced to simple images of billiard ball atoms, randomly
whacking into each other ( nonlocal properties in particular)

Mind and Consciousness cannot be reduced to just atoms - or a set of rules.
( and there is some trouble explaining mind in purely local terms, also)

Once you admit to yourself that the universe is ultimately ARBITRARY ( it just is),
you find no fault with ideas like prayer, prophecy, ESP, etc. as long as they are
empirically real - talk about such ideas violating some 'law' are nonsense.

For me, the universe IS God - creative, conscious, and non personal - in part
    because it emcompasses ALL personalities.

Why couldn't we be both? It seems to me that that is where the evidence points.
