Do You Ever Think "The End" Will Happen?

  Thanks for starting these topics Minimus I really enjoy them,

  It is all JW BS, all the evidence says there will be no God induced big "A" event. After taking a lot of classes at University which presented an incredable amout of hard evidence that the Earth is immensly old and was not formed or shaped by any of the events recorded in the Bible I think it's a safe bet that the Watch Tower Society doesn't have the foggiest notion even about the past let alone the future. The WTS has NEVER gotten one thing right yet as far as predictions go so I'm not the least bit worried about the END as they see it. We do know however, that there have been some huge events over billions of years which have caused the extinction of 99% of all living things on the planet which quite probably were caused by bolide (large astroid) impacts. The Earth is enormous however, so life has always managed to recover despite all the climate changes and impacts so I think we will have plenty of time to spread across space bringing earthly life forms to the rest of the uninhabited Universe and hopefully sharing it with what ever extra terrestrial life forms we may encounter. Eventually the Earth will be destroyed by the natural forces which created it but it will be a looong time in the future and hopefully by then our decendants will have many options for habitation far away from danger.

  Yes, the end will come. The Bible cannot be more specific though that no one knows when. Many men have gotten WAY to much attention by speculating when, presenting 'evidence', 'scripturally' supporting their theories, etc. The WT not being the only ones to try. All of us, even collectively, cannot fully understand how it started much less how it will end. When the apostles asks Jesus how they would know, the first thing he told them is 'do not be deceived.' Therefore it is my belief that we are all to live according to the Bible's teachings as if today could be it...always ready while doing our best.

  I have to remind myself that most of the teachings from the WTS are inaccurate, at best. What will exactly happen, and when? I don't know. According to Jesus, he didn't even know. So how are we as humans on earth supposed to know?

  Whatever happens is going to happen, and there is not much we can do about it.

  After thinking while growing up that the end was going to happen at any moment, it was a relief when I realized that the WTS is full of crap. Now, I enjoy the prospect of growing old, watching my children grow up, and one day even great grandchildren. Now that I have that in my head, I would hate to see something happen and take it all away.

  The fact is that we must live for today, as well as tomorrow. How many people went without education, children, careers, because the "end" was right around the corner. The fact is, that when I was told that I would never hit high school, I am nearing my 20th year from graduating. How sad had I not pursued a family life, career, etc. I need to plan for today, and tomorrow, and live that way. Otherwise, this is going to be a sad time here on earth.

  If there is no intervention from the sky I think it is inevitable that humans will destroy themselves. We have become our own worst enemy. Selfishness is the motor of evolution. But at some point humans have to realize the importance of world-wide cooperation. That transition from selfishness to cooperation is what I think of as Armageddon. If some sort of power from the sky could intervene at the point where man would otherwise destroy himself - then a new "survival" paradigm would be possible. The thought that "we almost destroyed ourselves" could be a powerful force for restructuring things on earth.

  I believe this is exactly what the Bible is talking about though in its ancient symbolism and language. The powers represented as or by Jesus the "annointed one" will some day return. Jehovah's Witnesses have made this the focus of their whole religion. Without the resurrection of Jesus there could be no christianity. Without Christianity there wouldn't be a people prepared for survival. Jehovah's Witnesses with their strange doctrinal fence have evolved into a culture that can survive the coming shake-up in the world system.

  Is everyone really a monster? Is humanity so bad at this point that destruction is inevitable? Are you really scared to go outside your front door everyday? If you are then I pity you. I meet more good and pleasant people everyday who are merely trying to make their way in this world just like I am. Sure, we all have problems, but I don't happen to know a lot of people who are consumed by their own selfishness leading to their ultimate destuction! Get a grip.

  Absolutely, positively, without a doubt, NO WAY IN HELL is that gonna happen. Never, ever, not in a million lifetimes. That is nothing but a carrot and a stick. The stick being Armageddon, the carrot being the new world. Meaningless. Totally meaningless.

  I have been looking at your comments and how you vehemently deny even the "possibility" of dire future consequences for mankind. Your remarks have a fog of fanatacism around them. Where you find fanatacism you find doubt.

  I am sure that you have a deep seated fear of the future. Lurking deep in your dreamworld is the idea that you are wrong and that these dispicable JW's are right.

  Apparently enough people on this board have this same quandry. The "end" seems to attract a lot of attention.
