reubenfine: I have yet to see one set up, but from reports it's becoming increasingly popular among JWs. When I was leaving they were pushing telephone, letters, and street more and more. Street I could handle, since it meant I could stand around and not talk to anyone, basically do nothing. Telephone and letters I refused to do - I HATE telemarketers and there was no way I was going to do that myself. Yes, indeed, 4 JWs can sit in the corner, be ignored all morning, and at the end of the day feel good about counting their 2 hours. It's a win win for them, and as you noticed, the world passes them by ....

Ascot, to true, when F Franz ceased to be the prophetic marvel that he was, spinning the most inane (but good sounding) nonsense to the JWs, they became lost doctrinally. The most obvious, to me, sign of this was the incredible weak explaining away of the generation teaching. 2 talks and 2 WT articles about it, and I have yet to meet ONE JW that can understand or explain it. You had 2 choices when confronted w/ that 'explination' 1) stick your hand in your ears 'la la la I can't hear you' and pretend it made sense, or 2) realize you'd been bamboozeled your whole life.

    this thread is DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP-

I HAVE to agree when i came to the net as an elder it was throw down fight to the death-

in fact at anytime there were 8-9 elders 10-15 ms on the net battling out out in behalf of wt

we rarely discuss fluff issue it was meat and potatoes hard CORE DOGMAS AND WT POLICIES- i recall so many folks asking me as a Society man, where in the bible could you take a nonjw and show them the basis of this policy beyond saying THE SOCIETY SAYS SO-

today by the time an poster logs on and says I am an Elder he is about to turn in his flockbook in two weeks-

The fear of the Net has pushed jw away from the net, and for those who come they are ready to get the He!! out

I recall burning a hole in my wtcdrom trying to prove that AF, JH and all the apostates were wrong

as has been mentioned the only defenders fo the wt are persons who were considered Wierd, Outcast, those claiming to be of the annointed in other words the only defenders of wt for the most part are the Crazy JW with a computer--

i was asked to provide scriptual support to show why i could even be on this site in view of what the slave had said about hanging out with apostates, - I COULD NOT-

i was looking back thru some of my archive files and the level of depth of debate just runs circles around what jw are coming to the net with today

when i came on almost 7 yrs ago there were nowhere need the number of DOCUMENTED SITES as there are today- to be honest about it there really is no reason for any jw to say I DIDN'T KNOW , but for many of us we have come to realize that mere facts. proof and documented evidence really means little to the avg jw-

We have come to realize that it runs much deeper --to the very mental and emotional level of a persons being- the promises that wt has held out to all it's members and folks like you and i have made life choices based on those promises- and for those reasons and others of course- we have seen so many times our family and love ones can be presented with facts and it is as if they have on blinders and in fact they do-

todays jw is a beat, depressed and unhappy person, my mom used to say:

James is it not amazing how we refer to ourselves as THE HAPPIEST PEOPLE ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH"

YET IN congo after congo, more and more jw are on drugs just to keep from falling off the wagon-

the meeting, assemblies and constantly having to read the same articles over and over is taking it's toll on a group of folks who long thought and believed they would by the yr 2002 be sitting under their fig trees--

your post was on the money at this point jw don't even have any fight left in them

Some hardcore posts in this thread..

This sort of reminded me when a PO implied to one of those in my circle of friends that are not attending meetings that we should not be having unauthorized private scriptural discussions... to which my friend responded "would you rather us discuss hockey instead of the Bible"?

You see, the Society just prefers people to just nod their head at whatever appears in the WT and u can answer from the paragraph, but heaven forbid u discussed JW beliefs or the scriptures privately. It is too bad because so many JW men think the Society is full of answers to all these doctrinal dillemmas, but when u ask them certain questions they have no answers and just blacklist u as an "apostate".

I really don't know how long people will keep falling for this.

Hey JT, it's true that more and more, the JWs that are left in are the ones that just can't mentally or emotionally stand to have their 'shopping cart' taken away!

I wonder if the company's that make Prozac/etc have thought about sponsering the WT in it's time of finacial need - it's in their best interest to keep the #'s of JWs high

    Exactly, Path

If the doctrine is all speculation and nonsense, what kind of leadership is this organization
going to end up with? What kind of people will put up with this? Answer:

    Dummies,
    Loonies,
    and

    Deliberate cynics.

Related to the bankruptcy of their doctrine, is the gradual destruction of their traditions.
We all are creatures of habit - and reflect on the past to tell us who we are.

By treating the organization as a business - and not a structure of religious traditions -
they allow lawyers to direct the Watchtower Society by default.

They dumped a 120 year tradition of Watchtower subscriptions, like it was nothing.

They may be downsizing the whole Bethel subculture out of existence.

They dumped food service at assemblies - without realizing its value as a tradition
of work, association - and brotherhood, eating together - with young people volunteering
    to meet other young people.

Instead they choose to emphasize those traditions that are already dead in themselves -
uninstructive, boring meetings and an unproductive 'ministry'.

They don't have a Gorbachev or a Rutherford to lead them.

only committees of old tired men
    with old tired ideas

What you say is true. However, are not most religious organizations today run as businesses?

The Catholic Church in Boston is making decisions similar to what the WTBTS will do in the future. They made the same mistakes in the past that the WTBTS are currently making. The Catholics had their Inquisition and JWs have their Judicial Committees.

Does anybody think that the Pope or the Governing Body really runs either religion? But, it is about money and power. And who knows who runs either organizaiton.

And who knows who runs either organizaiton.

Committees . That's who. Just like any major company.

A couple of weeks ago a perfectly healthy looking tree in front of my building fell over and smashed some woman's car. Fortunately nobody was hurt. Turns out that the roots had been rotting away for years due to some disease.

I think the WT may be in the same position. The inner core is rotten. I've said this here before:I think so many of them keep plodding along, because after spending forty years washing windows and waiting for the new system, they can't face the fact that they've wasted their lives.

Oh, and the Catholic Archd iocese would not be declaring bankruptcy if they had not already moved most of their assets to another location(s) - my wonder is how they have done so w/out leaving a trail. And my other suprise over that move is the fact that the BK court now has free run of their books. I never thought I'd see that happen. If the BK court is any good at all they will follow every sniff of $$$$ they can trace.

But it's all just a shell game.

Metatron, I never really thought of it that way. You're right though, they did strip anything that was already fun out of the religion. I am referring to the food service which was actually a nice break from the Convention and it allowed me to meet and talk to people I would probably never have gotten to know.
