Im gonna start my own religion, and convince people to sell my writings. I will buy a house in Maui for religious purposes, but I'll stay there and watch after it. I also plan on having a large wine cellar. I hope to convince people that God has a special plan for me, and it involves spending my day surfing and wakeboarding. In my religion there will be a special class of people, chosen by God for great honors. They will be called the 'Betty' class. God tells me only females are chosen for this 'class'. There will be 52 members in this class. 52 is mentioned alot in the bible. They will each spend 1 week with me per year. We will be a happy people.

I am going to school to get my CADC I (Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor) certificate. I am 36 yrs old now and I could forever kick my hiney for not starting ealier.......because I was too busy going door to door. I'm taking my life into my own hands and making myself happy by giving my kids and I a better and fulfilling life. It is wonderful not to feel guilty about doing this now! Plus I will be helping people and reaching out to the community, which I think is my calling for this life. I also plan on taking some courses on Sociology.

I am glad for these people who found work at such an advanced age, but what does the company have to gain by hiring people who produce less and will miss work more often because of their age.

I already am what I want to be--since 1989. I manage a Soup Kitchen. If I ever gave this up, I have no earthly clue what else I would want to be.

JH, are you my mother?! Those are her initials and that is her stance on finding employment.

If you are, you know my e-mail. Drop me a line....great to see you here.

If you are not, I am sorry you are so negative on the job market. Older (read over 35) workers miss less days than younger workers (less time off with young kids and less partying), are more reliable and always more mature. They are less likely to move for a spouse's career or leave for a better opportunity.

With the experience they bring to the work force employers cannot afford them. Employers hire younger, less experienced workers and then scratch their heads wondering why they call in sick, are less productive and need more training.

I have lived in 6 states over the last 12 years. The older workers were always more reliable than the younger ones. I know, I was a younger one who left for better opportunities and my spouses career. As I looked at the older workers they were always on time, not hung over, did not have to leave for a sick child and did not surf the net on company time...they did not know how to use it...

    I'M not your mother.

I'm not negative, I'm just saying what is happening here in Quebec. I agree with you on all your points, but the companies here just like youngsters, (18-30). The unemployment in my city was 15% for about 10 years in a row, now it is about at 9%. Work is hard to find here, and when they do hire, guess what, it's youngsters. Why??? Even on TV, all you see here is youngsters. On the news, youngsters. This is the way it is in french Quebec.

I found an article on this subject. I just posted a few lines.

Most employers prefer to hire youngsters - partly because they are cheaper, partly because they can be made to work harder and longer and partly because there is prejudice against older workers.

I absolutely refuse to grow up!

I graduated High School in 1966, but didn't take any college courses until 1980. I didn't go for a degree, just further education and to make a few bucks off the G.I. Bill. I surprised myself and actually learned some things that have helped me.

Education need not necessarily be for a job, but for self worth too. Some of the courses helped me to do my job better, but by and large, it was for me. The main thing it didn't help me with was to see what a crock the Watchower was as I fell for it too a few years later, but that is another story.

You are never too old to learn and feel better about yourself. Education and expanding your mind is never a waste.

    Lew W
