Great picture Lilacs. Is there any meaning to the man seating and the woman standing? I wonder... Very handsome man indeed...

Francois, That I know of, the Waters and McGraws all hail from around Evergreen Alabama. She was living in Sanford, Florida when she passed on. Her first name was Thelma, so I have no idea if there is any connection there or not. I have never done much geneology research, but if you are, let me know what you discover. Who knows, are we possibly distant cousins? Especially if you have money??

All the pictures are gone and only little red Xs remain. Bummer!!
It occurs to me that with video film and the like later generations will be able to see older generations speak, move, the whole bit. I wonder how many here are deliberately manufacturing a history of themself to pass on to future generations.

I think the old pictures are wonderful...and somewhat of a *sin* not to pass down with stories to our children. They may not appreciate them now, but if the kids are normal (which remains to be seen) - they will appreciate them as they get older.
My aunt (who never married) somehow ended up with all the pictures of her parents, grandparents, great grandparents.....and never told any of her 4 grown siblings, or approx. 20 neices/nephews and about 50 next generation. She's in a nursing home near me & I found them when she moved here.
I made copies for myself, then sent them to my sister, who did same, who then sent them on....until the circle was finished, now residing with my still not senile aunt. I've since made copies for each of my children.
I think such things are important - putting faces & stories to the memories. I love my aunt - but I think it was brutal of her to not share any family history with her siblings. The youngest sister had no picture of her father who died when she was 12. None of her 5 children had ever seen a picture of their grandfather.
If I had a scanner (well, I do....but if it were hooked up) - then I'd be proud to put the family up. It's great history. Congratulations and thanks to all who shared!

Waiting,
I love old pictures. Always have. On my mothers side ( Anderson/Amundson) they paid someone/s to do the research and have out history traced way back to Kings even.
Last year, I decided I wanted to know a bit more about my Dads side of the family because the most I knew is that they came here from Germany in the early 1800's. I went to ancestry.com and found out that my sister, Wendy was ahead of me and had already been searching. Me being the *cough* Kind soul that I am, I left it to her. She is better with research than I am and will not let frustration stop her as easily as I tend to do. She found out that my great grandmother Pieske is from a line of Jews. I thought that was so cool.
I can't wait for her to scan all the other pics she has and sends them to me. I intend on having them made into photos and then I will buy a display case to keep them in. I will also post some of them here.

Larc, you just have to find someone who will let you use their scanner. I'd love to see those pictures. The older the better.
I'll get with my sister and see if I can't give you all a bit of history behind each of the pictures

Hey Lilacs,
My sister, Patio, actually is into all that geneology & stuff (obviously, you can see - I'm not). She has researched both our parents family back to when they literally got off the boats from England.
Then, I came across my aunt's pictures - but didn't know much about the people except their names & my senile aunt's funny stories about them.
Well, my sister had all the historical information about the same people.....but no pictures. We finally got together and a cool history was formed of my mother's side of the family.
lol......and I found out that my dad actually wasn't an inbred like I thought. Go figure.

this is a picture of my grandparents back in the late 40's. as close as my gramma can figure it's from about 1946 or 47. i always loved this and have one of the originals (she found a spare) on my entertainment center in the livingroom.

Thank you Lilacs,
I appreciate the thread. I am still awaiting copies of 5 generations from my mother's side from my grandfather. An after all the holiday hoopla dies down we are to meet with a cousin of Mark's who is in her 90's she remembers Uncle Josiah and Cousin Springs. She met with us first, and she has a huge amount of research on paper on families. The only problem is it is not completed ..she kinda lost steam with it because of her age, also she is very hard of hearing. We literally have to scream to be heard. So we have come up w/ a system of writing to communicate. I have shared what I have found thus far and what the other cousin's have as written history. There is someone in Mt. Plesant that has the old family bible.
She wants us to meet her sister and bring all the photos. Even the ones WBTV used in thier 50 year anniversary documentary. So that should be an interesting meeting.
On my families side, I have to research many of the Spanish records.
