Michael3000 - Yes, thank you for noticing. It's a bad habit of mine, stumbling over that kind of obviousness.

Crazy151 - What you say about Chinese weaponry would be right on the money if that Slick Bastard Willie Clinton hadn't sold them the technology they needed for ca$h to run his second campaign which brought them roughly to par, information wise. Now that they don't have to do the research, they can make muuuuuuuch better weapons. Thank you Bill Clinton, and thank you Democrat party. You bastards knew what he was doing, but you put party before country. Hell will freeze over before I vote for a democrat (read: Marxist).

If only we could put up a protectionist wall around us and to heck with the rest of the world but unfortunately that is not the way it is in this 21 century. We have to learn to at least tolerate one another. You know I don't want to be a Muslim just as much as a Muslim doesn't want to be a Christian. I feel 99 % of the people that live in those Muslim countries would be happy if they just had a piece of land and a goat. It is unfortunately that 1% fanatics that cause 99% of the problems but its the 99% of the innocent men, woman and children that pay.

    Dolph,

With your education I dont reccomend you join. You'd only make about $500 a month if you're single!!

But as long as we're talking about war let me take a moment to remember Sgt. Checo who was the latest casualty of the war on terrorism. He was only 22 years old. He grew up in my neighborhood and his funeral was held several blocks from me here in uptown Manhattan.

He re-enlisted after doing his initial 4 years. He, like many others before him, did not join the armed forces to become rich or famous, he joined becaused he felt that it was his duty.

    Like an Army Cadence goes:

..........Oh hail, oh hail, oh Infantry, Queen of battle follow me. The infantry life is the life for me, 'cause nothing in this world is free.......

Yes freinds not even freedom is free.

Here's to you Sgt. Checo, I'll see you soon...*

Hey back2dafront here are a few things I need to remind you of:

Numerous people have stated that just because they feel the USA is a bully does not mean that don't appreciate the freedom enjoyed in this country, nor does it mean we'd rather see China as a superpower. Why do all of you continually jump to the same retarded conclusions?

Actually I think your wrong. What I'm doing when I remind someone of the other possibilities out there (China being the world's only superpower, etc) is I'm putting this all into something called PERSPECTIVE. Sure, no one has to agree with Bush's policies and people can think he's a bully. But seriously, GET REAL. I think it's important for people to think about this, because THEIR ARE PEOPLE who don't factor this in, who really think WE ARE BIGGEST BADDEST BULLYs the world has ever seen. And I'm sorry, but If you think about the other alternatives to a US Superpower.

You're brainwashed by American patriotism, just the way they want you to be

Actually, I'm the farthest thing from a gun-toting Republican. I went to an artsy-fartsy school, did drugs for years in a band and am an ex-con to boot. I have simply decided to PUT DOWN THE HASH PIPE and have accepted the reality that is before us. The reason I started this thread is because no matter how much you think the US is a bully, no matter how much anyone hates Bush, no matter how much you really really want the world to be a safe, happy place...the fact is PEOPLE WANT TO KILL US. Some have "legitimate" reasons, other reason are really dumb. No amount of hand-holding can protect us. Sorry. Get used to it.

Iraq is next, and after Iraq there will be another one - I bet you bottom dollar

Who is it going to be? France? C'mon folks. America isn't taking over the world. It's fighting terror and getting rid of weapons of mass destruction. I'm glad SOMEONE is. THIS IS WHAT I HATE THE MOST ABOUT COMMENTS PEOPLE LIKE YOU MAKE. Your acting as if the only reason America is doing any of this is for selfish, capitalist reasons. Their are americans DYING to protect you from terror and this is the only conclusion you can come to. SICK. I doubt the last guy killed in Afghanistan would agree with you.

We've got tons of forces over there already and still no evidence found of WMD. Since we have tons of satellites up in space able to spy on anywhere in the world we want to, you would THINK maybe we had some satellite evidence, and that's what brought up the accusation...?? From what I've read, Sadaam didn't kick the inspectors out in 98, we PULLED them out, correct?

SADDAM KICKED THEM OUT. I wonder why? Let me explain this to you:

Saddam lost the gulf war. During the war he HAD WMDs. After the war he STILL HAD WMDs. During the inspections he HAD WMDs that the inspectors found and destroyed. He has constantly been seeking and trying to aquire WMD through any means possible. So, my question to you is what makes you think he would all of the sudden, with no Inspectors running around, decide to just give up the search for WMD all together. Do you honestly think, someone like saddam would do this? Your intuition does not serve you well. Your wishful thinking has diluted your reasoning capability. Any 3rd grader would have the sense to understand that OF COURSE Saddam would still be looking. Do you think out of the goodness of his heart he would stop? Please, I don't mean to sound rude, but PUT DOWN THE HASH PIPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ton's of forces? We've got 4 or 5 UN inspection teams. Iraq has had 4 years to hide whatever where-ever. They probably won't find shit. It doesn't mean they don't HAVE shit. When can the CIA ever find anything?

pay my taxes and I voted, but I don't support lives being lost just so a good 'ol boy from Texas can cash in on more oil profits. How anyone cannot see that is beyond me

Here we go again with this argument. Bush is all about the oil business. But the oil business is everyone's business. Especially when it's threatened by Saddam. I don't know what to tell you. I don't like the way things work either. But c'mon, unless you can invent a longer lasting lightbulb or a windmill that can generate enough electricity in the next month, we're fucked. Looks like we're all still dependent on oil. So once again, instead of blaming BUSH for everything that goes wrong in the world, try looking at the more obvious reasons.

    dolphman,

SADDAM KICKED THEM OUT. I wonder why?

Actually, Richard Butler pulled them out.

    A CNN article from 1998:

Butler late Tuesday ordered UNSCOM staff out of Baghdad. The entire staff was evacuated before dawn on Wednesday.

    http://www.cnn.com/WORLD/meast/9812/16/iraq.strike/

    BBC from 2002:

It is four years since the inspectors - then known as Unscom - were pulled out of the country, complaining that the Iraqi Government was preventing them carrying out their work.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/2268256.stm

And here's an article on how the media has changed from "pulled out" in 1998 to "kicked out" in 2002:

The inspectors we're complaining of interference from Saddam's goverment. Which means Saddam wasn't letting them do their work. DUH! I wonder why...

So I guess the inspectors could've just stayed with their thumbs up their asses, or get pulled out. If you think about it, if Saddam wasn't allowing them to do their work, then they were being "kicked out" or "phased out" or "Left out in the cold" or whatever other terminonlgy you want to use. The fact remains the same, however, and no amount of BBC quotes have changed that.

So what exactly are you trying to say then? That they left because they couldn't find anything? Looks to me like Saddam didn't want them poking their noses around anymore. I don't understand, what was the point of your last post. I don't get it.

Again, put down the crack pipe and make some sense.

You said that saddam kicked out the inspectors. From what I can see they were pulled out. kicked out != pulled out. Why are the papers now saying that Saddam kicked them out when four years ago they were saying they were pulled out? Which is it? You then tell me to put down the crack pipe and make some sense? Am I missing something here?

So what exactly are you trying to say then?

Not trying to say anything other than what I posted? However, if you want to get more into detail, ok. Some of the UN inspectors were spies working for the west

When he and Bush "demand" the return of the UN inspectors to Iraq, what they they omit to say is that the inspectors were never thrown out by Iraq, but ordered out by the UN after it was discovered they were being used as a cover for American spying.

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/allnews/page.cfm?objectid=12148547&method=full&siteid=50143

When United Nations inspectors last scoured Iraq for weapons of mass destruction in 1998, the CIA and its sister spy services were rarely far away.

Undercover U.S. agents working with the U.N. teams secretly planted a high-tech "black box" device in Baghdad that year to eavesdrop on Saddam Hussein's phone calls, among other Iraqi communications, former inspectors say. The signals then were encrypted in other U.N. data and transmitted via satellite to the National Security Agency headquarters at Ft. Meade, Md.

Other operatives helped the U.N. team track Iraqi officials abroad. In one case, they planted hidden cameras and microphones in the hotel room of an Iraqi scientist trying to buy banned missile parts in Romania and then sneaked into his room at night to photograph the contents of his briefcase.

    http://www.latimes.com/la-fg-usiraq23oct23,0,4477844.story

United Nations chief weapons inspector Hans Blix says he cannot rule out the presence of spies in his team due to resume work in Iraq - adding that any intelligence agents will be ordered off the group.
Mr Blix acknowledged that charges of spying had undermined the work of the previous UN inspection regime, known as Unscom.
"Unscom lost its legitimacy by being too closely associated with intelligence and with Western states," he added.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/2484569.stm

Seems to me Mr Blix sums it all up himself in that last quote of his. If they lost their legitimacy then there wasn't much sense for them even being there anymore.

I'm not saying anything about whether this was right or wrong. Just simply saying it happened and so is it any wonder that Saddam was making it difficult for the inspectors to do their work?

I'm so glad you brought this up. I was waiting for you to do it.

My response to this is: WHAT THE HELL WAS WRONG WITH SPYING ON SADDAM?

Spying on bad guys like Saddam is a good thing! Jesus. Again. That's why I keep bringing up these crack references folks. People think they've made an amazing point by saying the UN inspectors were spys...OOOOOHHHH ok...so Saddam is being spyed on. That's TERRIBLE. Wow I feel real sorry for him.

In case yall all forgot, Saddam lost the Gulf War. He signed a "cease-fire" (which isn't a real peace treaty) because HE WANTED TO SAVE HIS ASS. Saddam agreed to UN inspections, no fly-zones, and whether he wanted it or not, get monitored or "spied" upon regardless. That's what happens when you lose a war and continue to be a threat. As far as I'm concerned, we can and should do whatever it takes to make sure he doesn't threaten anyone again. And that includes spying. Sorry, but again I don't see your point.

You make it seem like spying on Saddam was a bad thing. I don't get it. I really don't. Unless you can make a point for NOT spying on Saddam.
