KOREA MAKES THE CASE

Correct me if I'm wrong, but, isn't the main problem with going to war with N.Korea the fact that they have lots of artillery along the DMZ that can hit Seoul. I'm assuming they havn't built a nuke yet. Why not carpet bomb the DMZ, take out the artillery then invade. I saw Michael Moore on TV saying the US was afraid of N.Korea because they have a million man army, but Iraq had 750,000 in 91 and look what good it did them. I've had a few objections to the war with Iraq, but I feel if we are gonna take out these nations that pose a threat, lets do it. I'm afraid if we negotiate with N.Korea it will only reinforce the opinion that we will only fight a war if we are sure we won't get hurt.

The location of Seoul is indeed part of the problem, but you are wrong on one account, the experts are saying that NK has anywhere from 2-4 small nukes already.

The US isn't afraid of the NK Army, while they're tougher than the Iraqi's they're still no match for US forces and technology. Most of em are pretty hungry now too.

As attractive as the "carpet bomb" idea is, with Seoul only being some 20 miles from the DMZ and the nature and quality of NK weapons, Seoul would be devestated.

On the other hand, if we do nothing, Kim Jung EEL will eventually sale his nukes to the highest bidder, perhaps Osama. So we gotta do something.

I say we stop giving NK food and fuel, it's not like the people are getting that, it's all going to the military. Lets try a TOTAL embargo (with blockade) and let the NK military know that if they take out EEL, the US will Deal...How's that for a slogan

TAKE OUT EEL AND THE US WILL DEAL!

The reason Kim Dong came out & declared his military program is because the US DID stop any delivery of energy & fuel. This is why he has also reactivated his nuclear plants.

I don't think this makes the case for Iraq - if anything it makes Bush now look like a true bully - one that is willing to stomp all over the kid in the playground he KNOWS he can beat, but leaves the one that actually poses a real threat at this point - he wants to TALK.

All we need to do is open up a Wallmart and a Vons on our side of the DMZ an all the North Koreans will defect.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that the US wants anything to do with NK? They have no oil, and too many people would die in a war with them.

That's why Bush said, "we will negociate with them".

    Petty,

    Dear Heart,

Kim Jung the EEL started CONTINUED work on his Nuclear Program from the signing of the accord with Silly Willy Clinton. The US stopped the aid program BECAUSE of these violations.

Yeru - absolutely correct. And now that they do pose a real & eminent danger? What's our bully president doing about it? Oh that's right - he's amassing our troops because of the "future" danger that Sadam Hussein presents - against all other countries & against the UN (at this point in time).

    Petty,

As oppossed to what, a direct attack on North Korea that will result in millions of deaths. The situations are different BECAUSE NK now has nukes. NK will have to be handled differently. Once the war in Iraq has be prosecuted I think you'll see a harder line toward NK (I hope).

That you can't see the difference in how NK and Iraq must be handled absolutely amazes me. I'm still waiting to hear VIABLE alternatives from the peaceniks on how to handle either situation. I keep missing the "better idea". Remember, the absence of war is not peace, and often, the road to peace is through the horror of battle.

I would be interested to hear your account of Vietnam, and how American involvement brought peace?
