  Try again - I really do still work...

  OK - I'm a software development manager (not the pointy-haired Dilbert type) for a major cable billing/provisioning company. Coach and mentor a group of 12 professional programmers aging from 23 to 50+ years. Major purpose in life lately is to help these guys keep their job (making them appear indispensible keeps the "bean-counters at bay) and get them home to their families after 8 hours of work. Spend time teaching them the new approaches to producing great, bullet-proof code (test first, paired coding, design by contract, etc.) Life is good but still pay into my pension (lotto) twice a week.

  I am 63, retired Peace Officer and now working in Mental Health (Childhood Trauma) for over 15 years. I love what I do, I am paid well, but I would probably do it for free if need be :-)

  When I started, I was still in the borg, but by the time I got out I was mentally out. Took me another dozen years to completely unwind, though. I was inactive during most of college, then got active again for about a year and a half after I graduated, just to keep peace with my wife (she hinted at divorce), and have been inactive ever since.

  Accounts receivable administrator, including collections and claims processing. My first choice would be to stay home with my son, but since I have no other option at the moment, it helps to work for a great family oriented company that is not offended that family comes first.

  I am a paralegal....

  However, I am now writing HTML for realtors. I log on to their website (provided by a major real estate marketing company) and make "their" web site look better. Fonts, colors, tables, lists, banners, marquees, add pics (which I host on strike9) and add "click here for....." links. I also add graphics and animation.

  I can work from home, charge a reasonable fee (half of what I have seen advertised) and maintain their listings (same service....spice up the listing to make it memorable).

  I LOVE IT!!!!!

  I studied BASIC in college (long time ago) and this is totally different. I just love HTML!

  The majority of realtors don't know how to load a softwear program from disc, so my ability to go in, make their dull black and white page look exciting is rocket science to them. I have tried offering to teach them how and they don't want to know. They would rather pay me to do it. Really great.

  I work for a computer reseller, and I specialize in Microsoft licensing. Although I don't have a degree, I make a pretty good living, because I am the only person in my entire company who understands all the licensing programs. The down side is, there is absolutely no upward mobility for me, and I haven't had a raise in two years. I think I have peaked at this company, so if anyone in the South Bay of Southern California is looking for someone with my skills, drop me a line!

  I work in the reception area for our county's Parole & Probation department. I have numerous duties...too much to list. Basically, I'm the one the clients see first before they meet with their PO's. I am also a back-up for the Intake Officer, in which I check for warrants and assign cases to the appropriate P/P Officer according to the client's crime and then I take their "mug" shots. I really like my job, and the pay/benefits are decent. My co-workers are great and a very fun bunch of people. The clients are not the most positive people to be around, but I have more compassion for people since I've worked with Community Corrections. I have learned that a lot of these folks have just made some very bad choices in their life.

  I am also currently going to school for Drug and Alcohol Counseling. I hope to be a Counselor/Probation & Parole Officer in the future. I have a lot of support at work, so hopefully this materializes for me.
