I'm an IT Manager for a health care region. I look after the needs of an area over 120 miles, whilst helping formulate national policy on IT Systems. It takes me all over Scotland, with the occasional opportunity to travel down to England for the weekend.
The National Health Service isn't the best paid of governmental services, but the stress levels are generally more acceptable. If they weren't, I could always ask one of the local Doctors to prescribe me something
I worked my way through Support, Development and Project Management routes, before concentrating on more of the strategic stuff.
I love to see a project done professionally, in-time and under-budget, and usually attain that.
Has to beat cleaning windows, which I did for a while whilst Pioneering, incidentally
It also beats thumping nails in the snow, which I also did, as I was a time served Joiner/Carpenter.
After over a decade on various building sites, I decided it was time for a career change, so re-entered college for a qualification in Computing.
The rest, as they say, is history...
