    Jacqueline,

Very interesting to read your story. Question for you. You said honesty is a big part of your marriage. But you also indicated you had to stop writing before getting caught (your husband was at the table with you)? Are you going to tell your husband about your visiting this web site?

I'm not asking in a negative way, but there have been lots of other posts about honesty and relationships, etc., and I found myself wondering how your situation will play out.

    Southland,

Good question and I do not mind you asking. If my husband was to ask if I was visitng any JW related sites on the internet, I would have to tell him. I visit the sites while he is sitting here at the same table as me. But I definately do not say anyhting such as. "Look at what this has to say." or "Read this."

He told me the other day, "Jehovha's Witnesses are the only religion to have apostates."

I replied, "Yeah, but apostates in general are not against Jehovah, they are against the organization."

That shut him up for the time being.

I seriously doubt that's the case Jacqueline. If we just go by the definition of someone who left their faith, MANY people from different religions are apostates in some sense. Of course, JWs do make a big deal out of it, in that sense they help create apostates in that they push the use of that word, demonize them and so forth. Very narrow view indeed.

    Jacqueline,

Please note the date that the word "apostate" first came to be used, it's much older then the Org. It's not possible that the WT is the only religion to have apostates.

He told me the other day, "Jehovha's Witnesses are the only religion to have apostates." ."

The truth is Jacqueline, that all converts to the WT or any other religion are committing apostasy and so neccessarily become apostates.

Just to add something to what willy_think said, you can go to any Mormon site and Ex-Mormon support site and read how many people have been excommunicated/disfellwshipped for apostasy. You and your husband might be COMPLETELY amazed by the similarities of the JW congregations rules and behavior and the congreagtions of Mormons rules and behavior. Even their a lot of their teachings are the same as JWs. They even use the teerm "worldly" in the same way as the JW sect does!

    peace,

Good answer! I have nothing else to say other than I know in a way what you are experiencing, and that I can sympathize. Hang in there! Your hubby will come around.

JW's tend to do more "encouraging" to apostates than their fellow brothers and sisters. They are much more focused on the negative things in life than the positive.

How important is the memorial....what do you all do about it? Do you not go, or do you go and suffer through it?

Well, Jacqueline, not going to the memorial, especially since your husband still views himself as a JW, will be like tossing your glove down. Usually, the memorial is that last meeting a fading JW stops attending; many go just to keep the family happy.

How would your husband react is the most important question to ask. But in the end it is your decision to make and your feelings that matter.

    Hello

If you check the noun *apostate*, you will find that it's origin is Middle English from ecclesiastical Latin *apostata*, from Greek *apostates* - 'apostate, runaway slave'!

Jesus and His followers would no doubt have been viewed as *apostates* from the Jewish faith by many Jews at that time.

Perhaps that thought might shock your husband.

Jesus was not against God........... but His views on much of the contemporary thought and teachings of those in authority within the Jewish faith are clearly displayed throughout the Gospels.

Runaway slave...pretty ironic, don't you think?!

I was pretty fearful to explain to the Elders last Thursday evening my disappointment with the "lack of love" in the congregation. I was fearful that it would possibly backfire on me, surrounding me with door knockers this weekend. You know...even after I cried to them telling them of how lonely and shunned i feel, I still have not revceived a phone call or stop by from anyone? That just goes to show myself that I was right to begin with. I am doing the right thing by leaving...I just now have to learn to accept that and move on. Which by the way, is more difficult than I thought it would be.

My husband had a phone call last night from his brother who was telling him of a brother that was disfellowshipped. (Aren't the JW's the worst for gossip?!) Anyways, after he hung up, I was compelled to ask him what was going on. I should not have...I should have just taken it with a grain of salt and said to myself...do not get mixed in with the "JW's". The society trained me not to get mixed up with "worldly" issues, now I have to train myself not to get mixed up in JW's issues.
