Since I am not nearly as old as the fossil Farkel, my kid is only graduating high school this year. His gift is a trip to Europe for a month, from us.

    waiting,

: Please pass on to your daughter our congratultions also - so many years in college! Does she have the loans to go along with it? My son does.

Yes. $400,000 worth of them. NOTHING fazes her! As an out-of-state student at Michigan State (where the tuition is about double for a non-resident) she told me it costs $90,000 a year in tuition, which also includes labs fees, books and a modest living allowance. That, plus her undergraduate loans amounts to about $400,000. She's not-the-least-bit worried about it, even though for the next four years she will make under $40,000 per year as a resident. Jen is a princess, and yes: all of her close family calls her Jen.

Did I mention she speaks Spanish like a native? During College she worked as a dietician in a Hospital in Chula Vista, a heavily Hispanic City in the San Diego area. She made a friendship with a native speaker of the language and basically learned it on her own! She took French in school, not Spanish. Yep. She was also Student Body President of her high school (I was her campaign manager), was Miss Hospitality and won the Essay Contest in one of the beauty pageants she competed in, Miss Clairmont (a San Diego community) and she finished fourth in the San Diego County's finale Beauty Pageant known as "Fairest of the Fair." Not a bad ranking for a community of nearly 3,000,000 people. She did the Beauty Pageants not for the glory or for vanity but for the scholarship money. She's not only beautiful, she's practical!
