The guy with grey hair giving the talk keeps tightening his mouth at the end of his sentences. Im no expert in body language but im willing to bet it signifies someone who is unsure of the information he is providing.

Pursed lips are a classic sign of anger, including when it is suppressed. It is effectively holding the mouth shut to prevent the person saying what they feel like saying. This may also be an indication of lying or withholding the truth as the person stops themselves from telling the truth.

It is surprising that finances seem so bleak bearing in mind the cash grab for all the reserves held by the congregations and the sales of prime real estate that have already taken place. If donations are down then congregations are loss making. I forsee continued pressure to donate and elderly ones being pressured to leave money to the society since there are fewer younger ones giving generously.

It does seem somewhat shambolic. It was only a few years ago that the Society were buying a 1 million GBP home in Wales for the use of translators. http://jehovahswitnessreport.com/blog/nice-if-you-can-afford-it-more-jw-property-purchases

Now there is something of a "fire sale" going on.

The video information is from 2 to 3 years ago. They set themselves a target of 4 - 5 years to get their finances "back on track", so how are they doing now they are half way through their plan?

The selling of halls continues, as expected, but there are more and more public calls and references for money. It's almost every week now!

It's as if they are just starting to realize that their great idea of hall selling is not the solution they naively hoped it would be. If the hall selling is not bringing in enough (and they would have known this earlier if they understood forecasting) then maybe their other costs have increased (litigation?) and their other incomes are reduced (donations/investments?).

Whatever the cause it seems they need to find yet more liquid cash.

Expect the property selling to accelerate and the call for donations to become louder. These are the two most obvious ways of addressing the deficit. There may even be new ideas to shame people into donating more, ways of cutting the already miserly publications, or further cuts to their payroll.

From what I can see, they don't spend very much on anything.

    Their self-reported number:

During the 2017 service year, * Jehovah’s Witnesses spent over

$202 million in caring for special pioneers, missionaries, and

circuit overseers in their field service assignments.

A lot of that $202M is medical expenses. The WTS is self-insured - any and all medical/dental/vision expenses for any and all of their thousands of "special full time" servants (the ones who take the vow of poverty) are paid in cash directly to the providers. I'm sure they negotiate some favorable rates, but still, it's a huge amount.

Then there are the thousands more of Bethelites, for whom they also pay medical expenses plus food, clothing, and other expenses. They still print millions of pieces of literature as well, granted far less than in other years, but still that's a lot of paper, ink, and machinery maintenance & repair. GBers & their helpers (+ spouses) fly all over the world for "branch visits", "zone visits", international conventions, etc. That's dozens or even hundreds of (business class) flights + hotels + food + transportation per year.

And then of course there are the legal fees. They have a team of "in house" lawyers but there is too much work even for all of them, so they pay standard rates to JW-friendly, or even JW-populated, law firms and individual attorneys. Not to mention who knows how many settlements in civil cases, for child abuse and probably other things (accidents on JW property, for example).

There are no financial statements for us to inspect, of course, but they do burn through a lot of cash every year.

Dozy, you are dead right, those UK purchases were nothing but vanity buys, like drunken sailors on shore leave, remember the initial plans for Chelmsford? huge printing presses and a bookbindery, a massive transport hub, a network of underground tunnels, was'nt it hyped to rival Selters? those huge expansion plans for the UK and Europe are nothing but distant memories, my god they are stupid, the egg on their faces now and those inital slick presentations beamed around the world, they must be covered in dust now.
