When a person wins $311 million dollars, rather than God or the angels helping needy ones win at each drawing, tells me that God is not looking for the interests of the poor. He could help make 208 - millionaires each year by helping the needy win at each Powerball and Megamillions win the minimum pots. He can part the Red sea and bring down the walls of Jericho but can't control 6 ping pong balls??? If God does not help people, what is the point of being God? -

sticking feathers up your butt does not make you a chicken. Morpheus, firstly) i hope when I do, I will have Morphine handy. I hate pains in the rear.--- second) It can be done only by a "spring chicken" which I, closer *to 90 than 80, am really not, (you really stiffen up with age), butt (sic) then, when you use the feather's soft end, stroking any of that area can be a pleasant experience (Brothers Kasamov).
So: I do not believe in God as defined in my past anymore, but believe ever stronger in a creator, as the evidence of the intricacy and immensity of the cosmos fully emerges, thank you, sciences.

And how many grapes in a bunch of bananas?? SSD, do not underestimate the power of the GMO (genetic modification) process, a tool of science made possible by the laws of nature, genetics generated into the creation event.
added: I would not recommend that you expose your understanding of astrophysics, or logic, or sense of humour to a serious audience.

millie210 I agree with you, and although I am someone who has followed that formulae to a tee and am now an athiest I feel very uncomfortable with the fact that thiests are nervous about expressing their views on this forum. I love the idea of you following your own path, thats cool. Thats what we should all be about here - ACCEPTANCE.
I personally am still grieving over Jesus.I really miss him being in my life. I know it seems foolish but there it is.Thank you for your post Diogenesister.
You sound like exactly the type of atheist I would enjoy talking to and listening to..
I wish more atheists and theists could talk in an environment free of "listen to me! I know the only right way!"
Maybe one day it will happen..

I have read through most of the posts here. So far I have not seen anyone answer Viv's and cappy's question on which God is being referenced. There are thousands of them. As human knowledge has expanded, the gods have diminished. I think that's the answer right there.
Reality and facts refute everything I've ever been told about who and what God is. My doubting began as an older child, upon learning of the massive scale of suffering during the Ethiopian famine of the 1970's. EVERY believer must deal with the issue of theodicy at some point in their 'belief' journey. Some come up with excuses, others come to the only logical conclusion: god(s) does/do not exist.
Epicurus' quote sums it up:
“Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?”Since being on this board, I've seen the main question posed several times. I've yet to see the question "Does anyone still believe in the Goddess?"
I wonder why that is.

Does anyone still believe in the Goddess?" Heaven, or rather "Does anyone already believe in the Goddess?, because the goddesses of the past mythologies are as pathetic as their male counterparts. so:
look into the option 8) the deists. but:
the reason for the thinking of god as a male , consider the bower birds. The male builds the nest first, then the female can do her grand work. wt doctrine has it, that the quality of love is exemplified by the male face of those freaky four faced creatures of the chariot. I disagree with that, I would pick the female faces in my life, for god to be embodying love. but to be original, the creator would have to make the foundation, the universe fist, for our love, the female, nourishing prerogative to flourish in. and. Males staring at their nipples should be reminded where their priorities lie, where they came from.

Why on earth is that a problem to a believer who's god concept is either not omnipotent, not omniscient, or so far from human: it's intervention in human affairs is not to be expected?Epicurus' quote sums it up:
“Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.

I'm not saying that a god exists in any of those forms, but people who believe one does, need pay no attention to the Epicurean Problem. It troubles only classical theology.
[That said, the Problem had a great impact upon me when I first heard it, believer in a all powerful butcher who claimed to be Love, as I was.] -

That's the point, stuff. Any god defined ever is either irrelevant or an asshole.

Asking people to define a god so it can be discussed or debated and then just dismissing any silent or absent god as "irrelevant", "worthless" or "pointless", is empty. (argumentum ad lapidem)
This could be avoided by simply giving a justification for the dismissal.
