Before you comment on US history and Indian relations I hope you will reveiw the UK's treatment of indigeneous folks during the last couple of centuries

relatives "escaped" the totalitarian John Bull.... and have served the US ARMY for over 125 years.... reflecting a proud legacy of IRISH AMERICANS in the US. My only regret is having been involved in the JW hooey during my active duty years.

Note a note to the troops here but I thought I'd give you all a heads up. As of next monday 3 young friends of mine will no longer be able to receive phone calls or e-mails. They are in 3 different units with 3 way different jobs. They have told me that all middle east troops are cut off from communications after monday.
I think it's going down, very soon.
My message would be.....
Keep your heads down. Never be first in or last out of anything. You hear an explosion... step up next to a buddy or drop. Good luck and my best wishes are with you.

(this is just opinion) .. before ya start waving old gory in my face note: - my family spilled more than its share of blood in europe and asia in the big wars (australians and new zealanders gave more pro rata than [u]any[/u] other country and it crippled us financially and socially for many decades)
Ever had anyone die in your arms hillbilly? I have. Ever killed women and kids point blank? I haven't. But I know many that have (in vietnam and other places) Shoot Saddam? Sure .. and Sharon and every other despot but the sad fact is that after years of being lied to and spindoctored by a US more interested in the appearence of things than reality, we can't and don't trust Uncle Sam. The US government has been overthrowing democratically elected governments as well as non-representative ones for years on the basis of what is best for the mirky multinational industrialists.

I am in the US military and I fully support anyone's right not to support this war and protest it and say whatever they want about it, That is their RIGHT. I dont support the war myself but I volunteered to serve so until my enlistment is up I will do what I am told. I think people should be more tolerant of evryone's views and opinions.

While there are no doubt many American volunteers who join the military for patriotic "duty" reasons, I believe, (from what I have seen and heard) the majority do it because they believe it to be the best career/life move for them.
If Vietnam didn't teach you to pick and choose your wars, to the point you're willing to tell your government to shove their stupid war up their pasty political asses, then you're too stupid for life.
Before anyones panties get too wadded, know that I am nuetral on this war, yet leaning (slightly) towards the idea that it is needed; I simply don't feel I have the facts. But even so, I am heartened to see the protest and the peace mongers. God forbid a president who grew up playing cowboys and indians (till he got interested in beer and cocaine) think he has total freedom to use American soldiers as canon fodder, or Iraqi soldiers to play Indians, for that matter.

If Vietnam taught Australia something - it's that we're much better at fighting an entrenched enemy whilst protecting the civilian population that the yanks. (as anyone who has looked seriously at the conflict will attest)
America's military is unforgiveably wastefull. They waste amunition (kill rate of over 35,000 compared with Australia's less than 400) They waste everything they touch including human lives. Thier military industrial machine wastes the earths resourses at an alarming rate. American politicians squander oportunities to build democratic socialism at home and abroad. With hand on heart and teary eye on the star spangled banner thier shallow minded leaders talk blissfully of God and democracy. (the rest of us look on and don't know whether to laugh or cry)
Tell me Hillbilly - what happened to Americas war on poverty? and all the other wars they've lost? You folks waste high sounding platitudes and lives in uneccessary conflict. Words are cheap and perhaps that's the problem. Who ever made money out of selling fair minded discussion and peace?
So the world continues to look on bemused and wonders at thier sickness and what makes ordinary Americans blind to the hand they're being delt. Australia is making something of an international clown of itself in this too but while Americans are filling thier minds with shallow spirituality, bargan basement religion and self-congratuatory self-delusion, poisoning thier landscape with pestisides and genetically altered crops and filling thier bodies with plastic food for plastic thought, Australians are cleaning up our own backyard and growing some of the heathiest food on the planet. How many Americans know that the US is so polluted that the USAF buys it's food here? Top pilots need to be in top condition ya know) - a mate of mine has an organic farm supplying apples to the USAF and was offered $27,000,000 for it! - silly bugger is 84years old and said no! says money doesn't interest him, he just likes grow'n apples.lol)
America I love you, i really do but how long will you continue spraying the thin veneer of capitalist democracy over blind corporate greed? How long will you keep up this war against nature and everythingelse in the planets precious bio-sphere?
