If one was rumored to be having an affair, elders or certain ones in the congregation took to peeping in windows to try and catch them

    LOL.....that sounds a little far-fetch.

I can't even picture a group of elders peeping in someone's window to try to catch them doing wrong. I've seen comedies of adults doing that to their children but GROWN ASS MEN WHO ARE ELDERS!

Liam, you should check out old posts here and what people have had to endure being a jw and especially by the elders.

There are so many stories of elders acting outrageous. Putting their foot in a door of a jw woman who is home alone and barging in, elders staking out a persons house because they are spying to catch them supposedly having an affair (even if they weren't), elder claiming he was 'helping' a single mother put her kid to bed while she was busy elsewhere he was 'busy' in the bedroom with the child and the stories go on and on.

Then there are the judicial meetings where they ask the most inappropriate questions I have ever heard of even of minors who had to face down 3 elders without a parent or adult with them. Imagine you had a girlfriend and you went a bit too far with her, now you have to go give a play by play to 3 men. By play by play I mean every detail and no need to leave anything out. Basically verbal porn.

Does it ever bother you to be associated with such a group?

Do they do 'disfellowshipping' or now it is called 'removal' of members in your kh?

(carla, not ever a jw, a ubm (unbelieving mate, spouse joined up later in marriage) hope you don't find my questions offensive)

Not far fetch at all. In the earlier 90's I personally knew a guy who his parents, him, and his sister were JWs. He and his sister married two JWs. Then after about 10 years he did start seeing some women he worked with. He left his JW wife. His parents, his sister, her husband (his brother in-law) didn't have any contact with him after that. But then came the time when his ex-wife (still a JW) wanted to remarry but was told that she was not Scripturally free because her ex did not remarry and there was no proof/witnesses to him and the woman he worked with.

That being the case, his brother in-law who was an elder along with another elder went and hid in the bushes at his bedroom window to peek and get said proof that he was with the said woman. Then the dip-shit elder brother in-law said to him through the window, 'we got our proof', ______ your ex is free to remarry!

I wonder if the GB will say anything about it...

Not if she makes a huge donation to WT. As one "elder" suggested to me several years ago, "Why get married? If you want sex just hire a couple hookers when you are in Las Vegas. Then when you get home go confess, and claim a moment of weakness. If you offer to make a BIG contribution to the hall you will get off."

This from a guy that cheated on two wives, was a chronic drunk, committed tax fraud more than once, but always manage to drop a thousand in the money box every month.

But How is that Different from all the Child Sexual abuse committed by "Holy Spirit Appointed Elders" that has been covered up since the 50s according to the ARC?

She isn't one of the "Holy Spirit Appointed Elders" that must be worshiped by the R&F.

sisters were hounded to keep their dresses and skirts at exactly the middle of their knees!

The congregations I was in BITD would have had that poor sister in the back room for some strong counsel on not stirring up the hormones and sexual desires of men. Get that dress down to mid-calf or the ankle you Jezebel!

It seems like before the internet, there was no way to post on social media the crazy stuff elders did back then. The WT culture was rife with crazy shenanigans by those in charge.

It's different today. The elders are very careful in what they do. They are aware of how easy it is to record with phone and hand it over to the police. Imagine two elders peeping through a window and getting caught on video. Off to jail they will go plus it will be all over social media that two Jehovah witness elders were caught peeping through a window. They would be toast.

Also most of the ones who attend the Kingdom Halls are people in their 60s and up. Most of the middle age and young ones don't attend, they ZOOM. The young and middle age only attend when they have a part.

Also there is no pressure to make so many hours in field service, all one had to do now is check the box that say you participated. I know several that haven't gone door to door since Covid lock down. They just write a letter or two and check the box.Hardly anyone goes out door to door anymore. From what they tell me, maybe four go out door to door on Saturdays. Most just write letters.

They can't even find enough brothers to handle the mics.

You can't tell the difference anymore between a JW and a "Worldly" person, All the men wear beards and most don't know how to keep them nice and trim. Most women wear pants. A lot just go casual and tennis shoes.

There no more hunting to disfellowshlip members. Now the elders have even been given instructions that if a minor committed fornication, the parents are suppose to handle it. In fact there is no more disfellowshipping. A member is simply removed if he is stubborn and wants to continue in a certain course not approve. A person can get reinstated almost immediately if they come back.

From what my parents tell me, the organization is just not the same. People have lost their faith in Jehovah. And it doesn't really seem like the end is coming in their life-time. That's actually what many believe now. But since they hardly attend the meetings, nothing is made of it.

I'm sure there are some congregations where the elders are old and strict, but those congregations with elders in their 30s-40s it's different.

Thank you for your answer. It seems to me my jw must be in some old fashioned cong then! Though I can't really say as we no longer discuss jw things. He still wears a suit & tie and seems as zealous as always. Then again I don't really know where he is going on Sat mornings. Ha, so never mind, I know nothing.

@Liam: Read some of MY recent posts please. Elders and other hardcore JW are TODAY screwing with people's lives.

I agree many have 'slowed down' since COVID, but COVID is only 4 years ago, not 25-35y as you seem to imply.

My oldest is 18, my second oldest is 13, the latter is definitely being impacted by strict JW rules and threats of disfellowshipping and fear getting kicked out of the house if they don't toe the line. The older one was taken from me 18 years ago by a cabal of JW elders and family and to date, they don't know we found each other recently - that is what a JW today does to me, I know who knows, most are still an elder today, 15 elders across at least 3 congregations knew, I'm sure there was a detailed record that traveled with me to the next 3 congregations as I was "counseled" when I got to my new congregation about my divorce.

Various 'pioneer' wives, people that were supposed to be my "family" and raised me, none of them have come forward, some of them died taking the secret to their graves, I was 5 years an active JW ministerial servant on my way to elder AND THEY KEPT IT A SECRET to avoid the 'scandal' because some uber JW's kid or their parents or the elders may have lost some privileges for a few months.

They didn't tell me when I was a JW, when I left the JW or when I got another child, they know who I am, they have my contact information, legal-technically I am not a disfellowshipped or disassociated JW, so even that is not an excuse.

A few years ago I posted letters from people that are going through various issues - whether it was ectopic pregnancy or being gay and those were letters to Bethel, read them, that's still how these tribunals are conducted - a 16 or 17yo was asked whose dick did you suck, ectopic pregnancy what does it mean, why didn't you trust in Jehovah and DIE. I was given the same spiel when it came to my 13yo child and blood, I just had a conversation with supposedly very active JW that believe miscarriages are because YOU as a parent did something wrong. Have they changed over the last 10 years, made apologies, set the record straight?

You have your blinders on, people are still being affected, people are still being sidelined and disfellowshipped and shunned and abused. See the arrests they just made in Pennsylvania, what was it 18 people that are active pedo's.
