Elders and other hardcore JW are TODAY screwing with people's lives. ..my oldest is 18, my second oldest is 13, the latter is definitely being impacted by strict JW rules and threats of disfellowshipping
and fear getting kicked out of the house if they don't toe the line, the older one was taken from me 18 years

Anomy Mous, what I’m saying is the Organization is making sweeping changes to the way things are handled.

I’m not saying that ALL Congregations are applying the changes.

    The problem is that some elders, and CO have their own PERSONAL view on the way things should be run in “Their” congregation. A good example of this is what DF posted;

DisgruntledFool Many of the old timers here remember when brothers were counseled if they didn't wear a white shirt, wore multi colored socks and didn't wear a suit (matching pants and coat) and when sisters were hounded to keep their dresses and skirts at exactly the middle of their knees!

I asked my dad about this and he said the WT Society Never had a policy that said You Must Wear White Shirts when giving a talk. But some Elders took it upon themselves to enforce that rule.

Also there was a letter to elders posted on reddit that discouraged removing individuals without some extra steps being taken. I don’t remember the exact steps but they were suppose to have several discussions to help the person change course over a period of time. The goal had changed from "Removing the Unclean, to Helping one to change course. And if after all that the person refused to make changes, he was “Removed” But the person still had the opportunity to appeal the decision.

Now if the Body of elders strays from the instructions, that’s on that particular Body of elders.

I know on reddit, there are experiences where the elders hound some of the publishers, and several experiences where the elders don’t bug anyone about anything anymore.

Your 13 year old son is probably unfortunate to have a strict parent or parents and a strict elder or body of elders in his Kingdom Hall. I’ve read experiences like that too, and it’s terrible because it destroys the child’s confidence and freedom.

But the changes that the Organization is making is because they are trying to be more mainstream. They know the ship is sinking, and they are loosing the grip little by little. That’s why the no beard rule was removed, and the pants for women was allowed. And the Disfellowship changed to removed. And they have new instructions to help disfellowshipped ones come back and not to be to dogmatic in removing individuals.

The changes are not because they care, it’s because they are being forced to change by several governments.

My dad said in his hall, some of the old Elders refused to grow a beard when they announce it was ok. There was tension among the body. The old elders wanted to make it a rule that if a brother gave a talk, he had to shave. This went on for a while until the GB started giving talks with beards. Then the Old Elders had to give in, but they didn’t do it willingly.

It’s gonna take a while for the changes to be accepted by everyone. Probably the boomers and maybe the GenX will have to pass. Maybe by the time the GenY and Gen Z step in to run the KH, other things will change, like remove completely the shunning, blood doctrine a conscience matter, and the Last Days ideology.

They have to change if they want to survive.

And as one reddit poster said; “If you’re in a Congregation with A-Hole Elders, Move to a Congregation with reasonable elders”

If you have parents who are tyrants, make plans to move as soon as you turn 18.

Sorry for your kids, I know it's very difficult when you want to do good for those you love, but you don't have the power to do it. It's very frustrating. HANG IN THERE!

If I was the person, in the service department, who got a phone call from the elders in Serena's congregation. I would strongly tell them "to look the other way." Even allowing her to get baptised, one would ask "what were those elders thinking." Like her predecessors (Brothers Prince, Jackson, and Sister Roco), they have now created a massive problem between how this looks internally, to the backlash they would receive if Serena was removed. In my opinion doing nothing is the best option, but it would certainly have to further erode the already diminished, credibility of the borg. However, in the case of Brother Jackson, getting rid of that guy was certainly a good decision. Just imagine the backlash now, if it came to light, they applied the 2 witness rule to one of his victims. Its saved them a massive headache now.

@liam: What evidence do you have that they truly changed their ways. The disfellowshipping arrangement is still in place, the 2 witness rule is still in place, social control is still a thing. Can you honestly tell the elders that you are posting here on apostate websites and get away with it?

A few minor adjustments in the style and dress is insufficient, they have always done that, as long as it attracts some followers.

As I mention in my other post, there was a letter to the elders posted a few months ago on exjw reddit. Now the term is Removed not disfellowshipped. Different guidelines on handling a person involved in conduct not becoming. A lot of the posters were furious because many had been disfellowshipped for years and still were being held back by some elders to not get reinstated. But now the letter had guidelines on reinstating disfellowshipped people immediately. Elders have been reaching out to many disfellowshipped people, and many are coming back to be able to talk to family. I remember the letter because many were pissed off, I believe a PIMO Elder posted the letter for a couple of days and then took it down for obvious reasons.

Can you honestly tell the elders that you are posting here on apostate websites and get away with it?

As I already said in my other posts, I never got baptized as a JW, but I have lots of family that are JWs. So the elders can't do shit because I post on Apostate websites.

"The disfellowshipping arrangement is still in place, the 2 witness rule is still in place, social control is still a thing"

The HLCs still exist, so no sign of blood becoming "a conscience matter" either.

Again, renaming a few things because they got in legal trouble doesn’t change the fact, you said it yourself

many are coming back to be able to talk to family

And there is the problem. What if you don’t want to be associated with a non-Christian cult? What if you are member of another church? This seems like pure emotional blackmail to boost their numbers.

This seems like pure emotional blackmail to boost their numbers.

    Of course it is.

But humans do what they do, even if it makes no sense. That's the way it has always been in religious Organizations as well as non-religious organizations. That's the reason the Watchtower exist and people continue to join even with all the exposure of their Child Sex abuse, deaths resulting from their No Blood Ideology, and their shunning practices. .

Look at the history of the Catholic Church, They use to execute people if you opposed them. And even with all the proof, over a billion people continue to proudly call themselves Catholic.

But it's not just the Catholic Church.

That’s why History keeps repeating itself despite all the evidence. Most people prefer to stay ignorant rather that face the harsh reality of life.

All we can do is try to help them see. Some will listen, some won’t.

    Catholic Inquisition

The exact death toll of the Catholic Inquisition is difficult to determine, but estimates range from thousands to hundreds of thousands. The number of deaths depends on the region and the time period.

    Spanish Inquisition

The Spanish Inquisition resulted in 32,000 executions. The Spanish Inquisition lasted for over 200 years and was a major force in Spain

    Inquisition in Italy

Italian historian Andrea Del Col estimates that around 1,250 people were sentenced to death out of 51,000–75,000 cases in Italy after 1542

    Inquisition in Portugal

In the 16th and early 17th centuries, about 5.7% of the people tried in Portugal were sentenced to death

Many executions were carried out by non-church tribunals, such as witch hunts in Protestant countries

I just found this Today on exjw reddit. It was an invitation for JW lurkers to create an account and start posting and not be afraid. Some poster asked the same question about disfellowshipping.

    Ok I got a question.
Have they changed disfellowshipped to "Removed".......because it sounds better?
I thought I read here that they are now getting a little bit better with young minors. And instead of immediately meeting with them judicially, they let the parents handle the situation with their minor children.
And elders are reaching out to disfellowshipped ones and will reinstate them as soon as possible if they come back
    Answer
Over the years they have changed this expression around. Principally the NWT only lists the expression 'removed' now - which is actually a word used in Strongs concordance.
A number of other translations use the term remove, expel, purge. Nowhere is the term 'Disfellowship' used. Anywhere. As to the context in the bible WT has carved out the whole thing to fit their own narrative of mandated shunning. It doesn't matter what term they use, but since the heat is currently on in Norway - as the WT tried to defend the entire concept in court to keep/continue their government subsidy and defend their only control mechanism of fear through ostracism. So they switched it around to get rid of exclusivity to their group.
As for the rest of 'getting a bit better' etc. - its all smoke and mirrors and the core concept continues as explained above.
