  It's really basic economics 101. If lower wages didn't hurt people's incomes, why have minimum wages? The typical pattern is that someone eventually gets into a position where they can hire people and from that point on they only hire their own kind. The workforce is taken over by immigrants and the poorest citizens of the host country suffer the most both from low wages and from lost jobs.

  Also, if South America is really as bad as you say ... do we want people flooding in from there without proper checks? Isn't it all the more reason to vet people and protect the border with a proper ordered immigration and asylum process?

  These countries are bad because they have abandoned law and order and allowed a free-for-all - the exact thing that civilized countries have to avoid and protect against.

  A proper ordered process benefits legitimate immigrants the most and disadvantages the criminals and people smugglers. That anyone would want to support things that works opposite to that is simply mind boggling to me.

  I am taking a basic course in economics, finishing first year at the University. You are correct in everything you say.

  Perhaps in the past the idea was popular that immigrants that do the jobs nobody wants benefited America. But now with current research we know that's not true. If illegal immigrants weren't allowed to work in the jobs that nobody wants, like being a maid in plush motels, those corporations would have no choice but to raise the wages for those menial jobs and the LEGALLY unskilled labor force could take those jobs and climb their way out of poverty--LEGALLY.

  Some of the migrant caravan members are suing President Trump and some of the administration for saying they can't apply for asylum. So now it's going to cost the regular taxpayers millions to defend the lawsuit

  not all these people coming in are lettuce pickers. I know a lot of the ones I know (and like on a one to one) make more money, have better trucks than I. And there is strong discrimination against those of us who do not speak Mexican in certain stores and restaurants. Used to be the farm labor came, did the job, and went back, then the stronger laws screwed that up, so they stayed. Legal residents can't go "home" for Chrustmas and still need a wage.

  Yes. You are correct. That is exactly my point. That is why I said I would gladly pay more for those products if it came down to it and it was done by legal workers at the right wages. It was exactly my point that the greedy corporations still prefer illegals to work for lower wages. That is partly the reason there is no effort to legalize them and a major reason as to why they keep on coming no matter how many obstacles you throw at them.

  When I said that they are not a social burden, I meant by claiming benefits. The cost of detaining them counts but not from the perspective most people look at it. Most people that are angry at illegal immigrants claim that they come here to take their jobs and claim benefits and that is what i am referring to. Hardly anyone will tell you they want to stop illegal immigrants because it is too costly to detain them.

  The jobs are not taken in the way of stealing from you. They are given to the lowest bidder and that is what voters should concentrate on. Cut the ability for companies to hire illegal workers and the illegals will stop coming. No wall or detention facilities would be required and money will be saved. Yet the rhetoric from certain political parties is that they are your enemy

  I certainly don't want bad people crossing the border. Like I said, they've been in my backyard. I don't propose open borders as a solution. That is another rhetoric used in the political ads. We are never going to arrive to a proper solution if we keep breaking apart the issue and not considering it as a whole.

  This is simplistic. They won't stop coming because of this and many are already here. Yes, hiring them should be illegal but a mass of unemployed people will be a mass of crime. Another fact that is often twisted: legal immigrants are very law abiding, often more so than the regular population. Illegal immigrants commit more crime and often serious crime (never mind the as-yet-undiscovered identity theft that has happened to many yet-to-turn-18 Americans).

  There is a party that wants them to come and encourages it - the only purpose of things like sanctuary cities is the encourage illegal immigrants to make them home. They encourage it because they want the votes and they promise handouts in the form of welfare and no questions in return.

  At a personal level, illegal immigrants can be "your enemy" - they disproportionately commit crime, steal identities, rape, murder, and yes, put people out of work and depress wages.

  WTF with that lawsuit in the article above. Society has jumped the shark. Okay, that probably occurred a long time ago but suing in behalf of people that aren't here, aren't citizens, etc. preemptively is nuts. So much of the reactions are simply emotion and the left seems to see things more and more through some utopian lens where money and resources aren't an actual thing. It's bizzaro world right now.
