If the flag of a country is just a symbol that means nothing, then surely, the peace logo is also just a symbol that means nothing, (they both then become just a design).

So why put anything up if it all means nothing?

Edited to add.......also by the same reasoning, a white flag is just a symbol that means nothing, so why the furor about someone dead holding a white flag.

See sense people, the arguments are getting silly.

The flag should never have any mark, insignia, letter, work, or other designs of any kind placed upon it.

This is how most Americans feel about someone like Charlie posting a picture of a peace symbol on the flag. It's upsetting to us. I don't think it makes us flag worshippers, but it shows we do have some respect for the flag and the country we are in. It also means we appreciate the kids that are laying their lives on the line.

It shows gross desrespect to alter or deface the flag in any manner. Most americans know this.

Everyone here knows this. That flag was posted for the shock effect value.

Then of course we have the yellow ribbon. Simon is upset with us posting the yellow ribbon. Yet he can't see a problem of a defaced American flag.

It's getting pretty lousy around here these days. Makes me sick to my stomach and I wonder why I bother with this website.

despite what u say, altering the flag in anyway is not ok. There are many places on the net where u an find "flag etiquite" .

Yes it's ok, it's called "Freedom of Speech", or do you not get that concept? So if it's on the net, it's now law? LOL

Let us all get some posters and banners and march down the Baghdad main street advocating freedom of speech.

Here's my take. People should stop being so interested in symbols and start getting out there helping people.

You know any poor people? I grew up with a lot of lower middle class, hardworking people who couldn't make a buck. Help them.

Have I helped in a small way? Whenever I could.

I'm just sick of people sitting behind their comfortable chairs arguing about how to treat a flag when there are more pressing problems in America. I'm sick of politicians climbing to the top of the ladder on the bodies of their opponents in political slug fests, which are nothing but Democratic/republican pep-rallies. I'm sick of presidents making a name for themselves on the bodies of the young people they send to war.

If I thought I had even a remote chance of becoming president, I would start my campaign now. But, in the end, selfish people will vote for their parties, because they value worthless abortion/anti-abortion, gun control arguments, and personal gain above real people who need their help.

They're comfortable in their posh homes, and cushy jobs, the biggest concern in their lives, the sports teams they follow.

Some independent with a brain needs to inhabit the White House, someone who knows and cares about the little guy.

Flags means nothing if the underpriviledged are being trampled on.

You know, everytime Bush speaks, I try to fathom, how he got elected, he's a bleeding idiot, he sounds like a little kid with an adult voice.

    LB,

it makes you sick to read critical comments about the US?

maybe you should step back for a second and look at your country in a more objective way. your trust and believe in the righteousness of the US institutions is getting a slightly religious attitude. you valuing the FLAG in such a high manner is a strong sing for it.

would you agree that there is no better country in the world than the US, no other country has your freedoms, no other country has such a honest, good hearted history and foreign politics, no other country is so democratic, no other country has such wealth or higher life quality etc.

you are mistaken if you believe that.

the US just as most other countries has good and bad sides...remember that please!

He's a Republican. No matter what, Party-voters will always vote for their party, no matter what. That's the problem.

For a moment, imagine if George W was an independent candidate........how many votes would he have gotten?
