Hey expatbrit,it`s expected to double according to the last news report..Canadians in rural areas are pissed off about it..There are some guns that have been in familys for generations..Government says register them or hand them over..Can`t even buy a friggin bullet with out a permit..Criminals have no problem getting guns or bullets without the dam permit..If you got the cash you got the gun...Going to have to bite the bullet(pun intended) and get registered for my guns...OUTLAW

aw stalk'n doesn't hurt OUTLAW! (if you really want a gun that bad, just do what i did - join a wildlife protection organization *** I'm in a bit of a delema over this. As ozzie says, Australian States have regular gun amnesties and recently had a gun 'buy back' amnesty. There are those who say it's all a great socialist plot and that kind of thinking is hard to fault (after all, it is particularly military guns and amo the government is banning) That said, this country is a thousand times safer than the USA (it's a matter of whether you trust your government i guess) I read a disturbing report the other day to the effect that if Indonesia invades Australia and I shoot a few of 'em - I can be charged under the United Nartions charter as a terrorist ("a non-combatant" or whatever double-speak they use) - and treated much like the Australians tortured and held without trial in Americas Camp Xray! :( (wouldn't stop me doing it but unclebruce ps: being a typical Australian I find it hard to "dob anyone in" so, when i found out that a nutter i know had an illegal luger under his house i got his wife to chuck it in the river.

Hey Uncle Bruce,Two dim-wits up this way decided they were going to hunt Grizzly Bear..Grizzly Bear are extremly large animals, incredibly powerfull, fast, and smart besides..So they`re following the bear tracks .They think they`re close, and they`re gonna get their trophy.Little do they know the bear is hunting them .The bear leads them on a ways then circles up behind them. The bear kills one guy and rips one buttock off the other down to the back leg..I can`t decided who was better off,the guy who got killed,or the guy who tips over when he sit`s....LOL!...OUTLAW

I'm into sea-kayaking and read about guys over there being stalked for their food by bears and wild cats or attacked by wallrus! (I 'll have the 44 magnum please :) <--- me at the camping store

During the last amnesty a friend of mine here in the UK handed in a gun he that bought back from Korea.

He was grilled for FOUR HOURS by the police, where, when, why etc.

He swears he would never do that again if he ever had another gun.

Francois, you are suffering a misconception... we don't HAVE guns at home. The only time in the past few years a firearm has been used in home defence was when a reclusive farmer living in an isolated farmhouse shot a 15 year-old unarmed burgler (like almost all burglers are here) . He went to jail, as in British law you can only defend yourself with equal force or lethality as you are attacked.

And please don't come the political freedom jive.... Eastern Europe freed itself from totalitarian government without guns. Quite what makes Americans so 'special' that they can only fight for polictical freedom with a gun, I don't know, it's special pleading and unviable in a serious discussion.

Having said that, for years I though that Americans killed each other in massive numbers with guns because they had massive numbers of guns.

I now know this is wrong, as the murder rate using firearms was six times higher in New York than in London in the 1900's, when the two cities had comparable gun control laws.

Broadly speaking, the murder rate using firearms in the USA is still 6-8 times higher than Europe.

So, American's don't kill each other in massive numbers with guns because they have massive numbers of guns. They kill each other in massive numbers with guns because ...?

Hell, I don't know why, and, funnily enough, it's hard to find Americans who are willing to debate on the topic of "Why Americans shoot each other six times more often than Europeans".

Why do you think Americans shoot each other six times more often than Americans? It's not due to the gun control laws, as I have demonstrated. Are Americans more violent, is life cheaper, are they enured to violence, is it a frontier society, is it culturally backwards, does a diet of burgers make you a murderer, are the police rubbish?

    What do you think?

people own guns because they think it gives them security. that is a mistake. the only time a gun is fired is when the child gets hold of it and accidentially shoots a friend.

sure criminals will keep the weapons now but if guns are forbidden the number of armed people will drop consequently over the next years.

guns don't make a state safe.

The amnesty is for illegally owned guns, so the argument about guns being taken away from law abiding citizens doesn't hold water.
