    demonstrators complained that police overreacted because protesters had simply blocked access to a firm they claimed was profiting from the war in Iraq

    "had simply blocked"??????

    How do you peacefully (and lawfully) 'block' access to a public business? I have nothing against a persons right to protest, but in saying that I also dont think protesters have the right to force their beliefs/veiws on others by infringing upon anothers right to access that building. That is not 'peaceful' protesting.

    Quote:"People who think the right to protest only applies to those who agree with them make me sick"

    And people who think they have a right to unlawfully block public access, destroy police cars and public/private property, and harm/infringe upon the rights of others all in the name of their cause make me sick.

    Many times, after all the facts come out, we find that the protesters were actually committing a crime.

    sometimes, after all the facts come out, we find that the protesters who were actually committing a crime, turned out to be agent provocateurs.

    ring, answer these questions;

    So, if police used rubber bullets on a peaceful crowd of anti-abortion protesters who were trying to block access to a clinic, that would be okay?

    So, if police used rubber bullets on a peaceful NRA rally, who were picketing a government building to protest about new gun laws, that would be okay?

    Abaddon, people physically blocking access to a public building is not a peaceful act, it is a crime, and should be treated and handeled as one. Your right to protest does not give you the right break the law by infringing upon the rights of users of that clinic.

    ::::So, if police used rubber bullets on a peaceful NRA rally, who were picketing a government building to protest about new gun laws, that would be okay::::::

    In this sentence no laws are appearently being broke........so my answer would be no. Picketing and blocking access are two different things.

    Indeed they are, and subject to difference of opinion from both viewpoints. Protestors may think they are picketing and police say they are blocking access...what do you do? The article PleasureDome provided was a prime example of "They say, we say".

    To the poster who said that Peace rallies often erupt in violence, sorry I forgot who said it, how many peace rallies have you been to? Just curious. I have been to over a dozen the past three months, and none broke out in violence. In fact I object to your characterization of protestors is some frenzied mob ready to beat the skull of anyone who cries disagreement with them.

    I dunno, maybe protests in Minneapolis are just mild cuz it's too freakin cold and we're all mid-western (thus we never get worked up about anything...haha!).

    Jo, by the protesters own admitance, they said according to that article that was provided by Pleasuredome" Demonstrators complained that police overreacted because protesters had simply blocked access to a firm they claimed was profiting from the war in Iraq."

    I don't feel this was a question of "they say, we say" when demonstrators have admitted to blocking access.

    "Some people were blocking port property and the port authorities asked us to move them off," said Deputy Police Chief Patrick Haw. "Police moved aggressively against crowds because some people threw rocks and big iron bolts at officers."

    Police spokeswoman Danielle Ashford said officers fired bean-bag rounds and wooden dowels. They also used "sting balls," which send out a spray of BB-sized rubber pellets and a cloud of tear gas.
