No way I'm going to spend "Minutes" listening to orders coming from Nine Old Men who live in New York, That I've Never Met and who believe they are going to be the Rulers of the entire UNIVERSE!

Imagine the Mental derangement, the craziness to be an old man that gets sick, gets old, like everyone else, and believing with your whole heart that you are going to rule the Universe.

That's the Governing Body. They actually believe this shit. They believe they are going to look like this someday and have the power to resurrected the masses of humanity that are in the graves. Steven Lette made that point in a Broadcast video and I almost choked when I heard it.

My brother and I, aged about ten or so - 1970's football stadium - sitting on deckchairs under tarpaulin on the open football stands- rain, thunder and lightning - everyone had vacated except us - brother on stage pointed to our humble man made den and shouted at the audience -

DEVOTION! Look over there at those two people in the rain if you want to see DEVOTION!!

Everybody clapping - my brother said 'I think they're clapping US!!'

We broke off from reading our comics and eating snacks by torchlight to look outside the tarp - yes they were all clapping us!!

Then back to our comics and snacks - best assembly my brother and I ever enjoyed - can't remember a single thing from the program though!!

Isn't the very idea of conventions an American concept like the Democrats National Convention currently taking place in the USA?

It's an opportunity for people to pat themselves on the back and say how wonderful they are, it's nothing more than a self-appreciation society.

    Yep, it's the same deal.

The only difference is that the politicians do actually have power to start wars, cause havoc on the population, and other stuff, whereas the JWs "Think" they have the power of Jehovah's angles, protecting them from the government armies.

JWs have no idea that the only angels they will see are on the WT magazines.

    RULES & REGULATIONS:

I worked full-time and I remember going to work on Monday after the assembly being totally exhausted!.. Now why would that be after I was sitting for three days? Maybe it had something to do with getting up early; being around people I didn’t really want to be with and maybe listening to monotonous talks and sitting on uncomfortable seats, etc. You were not refreshed when it was over.

What I also hated was the overly long closing prayer.. If people were smart they left before the song and prayer and beat the crowds out of there.

You couldn’t pay me to do this now and I am glad this is all in the past.

    Liam;

I know. Its just an illusion the JWs have

Its the same illusion they have with their ""perceived choice of worship" they have.

Its not a choice they have. Once they stop doing what they're ""told" to do,,,they're treated an entire different way.

Been there done that. wife and two young children up at the nose bleed section always walked down the steps before the BIG final talk by some special bethel guy. We got out of dodge with good traffic 1 hour drive home

"Isn't the very idea of conventions an American concept..."

Possibly. It'd be interesting to look into the history of it all. My first instinct, without looking anything up, is that churches and other religions having remote conventions and church camps harks back to the old "brush arbo(u)r" meetings of the nineteenth century. They would roughly coincide with the time when new congregations like Russell's were forming.
