I was on the ball & bolted out of the venue just when the final dude finished his talk. Between then and the other guy coming on stage & giving his comments.

Total brainwash Jim Jones style he talked for hours to his group
I remember the closing prayer of president Milton Henschell at the international convention in Moscow, 12 minutes.
During his speech that day there was a flash and thunder just when he read a bible text about thunder. Will never forget that.
Just like a higher power was playing with the event.
Gorb, what was the chatter like after that momentous event? Were there hushed whispers, or was it more of a humorous nature?
That was back in the days when people could still name the WT president. On boards like this he would be referred to as "Uncle Miltie". The new "future kings" don't get the same level of respect, eg. "Tight Pants Tony". I can't offhand recall the epithet Mr Letts(?) gets.
Balaamsass2...was that the 1969 PEACE ON EARTH 8 day assembly held at Dodger Stadium? I was there as a 14 year old boy with my family and single, dyed in the wool, God intoxicated, religious fanatic mother. We went to Disneyland, too! The ONLY thing I remember about the assembly itself was day 5 and the drama about immorality and young boys not learning to jerk off alone or with friends. Through the whole thing my mother kept sneaking looks at me to see my reaction to the drama. Many of us sure had a fucked up childhood growing up in this mess.
@notformer, what I remember is that our JW group was not so emotional like jw's these times.
We were young, made fun and adventure. A flash and thunder more or less, we were not impressed.
Now many jw's are "full enthousiast" if something happens.

ST GEORGE, Wow. I didn't know that about Van Morrison.

Disgruntled Fool,
No it was an earlier one. Mid 60s. I just remember a rain storm we wore plastic bags for. Followed by extreme heat, when my mom fainted and fell on the stairs. ...and DISNEYLAND!! I must have been about 7-8.
When people say things like , "I'm so glad we made the effort - it was such a blessing", what they are really saying is , "I'm so glad it's over".
A lot of the outdoor conventions were blistering hot, humid or raining and little shelter. And later, as others have pointed out, not even food service to look forward to.
I remember eating warm, soggy tuna sandwiches at the Sydney International convention in 2003 thinking, that's it, this is the last time. Heat, rain, bad food, no time to catch up with any friends because the venue was so crowded and I remember nothing of the program.
And yes, we were expected to carry those leftover sandwiches, drinks and rubbish on trains, buses etc back to our accommodation an hour away. That when I realised that the organisation does not care about its members.
the 1969 PEACE ON EARTH 8 day assembly
As a then "newly interested person", I felt disappointed that I missed that assembly.
Little did I know!
