Jan from TamThey brought in that new UK law making marriage illegal until 18 because muslim girls were being forced to wed abroad by their famillies against their will. The problem was that these girls being 16 were still minors and as such in their parents care so they could insist the girl go abroad and then once there were forced to wed. Hence they changed the legal age of marriage to 18 so the girls could leave home if they suspected they were going to be forced to wed and at 16 made such a marriage illegal (and no use to the groom since the wedding is to obtain citizenship for him and that would be null and void).

Sadly that law affects western girls in your position Jan. I do think the legal age of consent should be 18 (with a Romeo and Juliette 16 to under 21 clause in place)

The elders won’t do anything, if you suspect there is abuse going on, report to the police naming the suspect. Other than that, it is up to her parents, talk to them before it becomes a police report.

i'm 23 years older than my wife.

    So if you're 70, then 70/2 = 35 + 7 =42.

You're 70, wife is 23 years younger, i.e. 47 so a good 5 years headroom, so to speak.

    Depends when you married..........................

The age gap is definitely cause for concern. Definitely mention to the parents, and suggest that the young lady should have a friend with her when the 25-year-old is present. It may be innocent *at this point in time*, but a 16-year-old is still at an impressionable / vulnerable age to be given exclusive attention by a 25-year-old, and someone should speak to the young man about having someone present to ensure that everything is above board and safe for both of them. The 16-year-old's parents can ask the police to do a background check on him too. Who knows, the police may have a chat with him about the law and the kind of trouble he can find himself in if he doesn't back off.
