Serious sinner?

I prefer the term 'HAPPY SINNER'.

I am a serious person, but I'm so much happier sinning against the JWs than being a part of them.

What is "the sin that easily entangles us'?
    LACK OF FAITH

The happy sinner is un-entangled. Faith, no faith, no matter. Life gets real simple when you are a happy sinner. You don't have to damn the consequences. What? You mean people who only want me if I conform to their absurdities will shun me for being a sinner? And that's supposed to be bad, is it? I won't get to live in paradise with a perfect body with only JWs... and that's supposed to be bad too? Me thinks we have very different ideas of what is good and what is bad.

    @Phizzy

What concerns me may be an unfounded fear, but this statement leaves it open for Elders to Label any of us as being " Serious sinners" according to their lights, and then we will be treated the same as any actual "Removed Person".

Oh no, your fear is founded. But this has always been the case and will always be the case. The JW/GB will always find new ways to justify this action against non-conformers. You will need to face your fear because it already IS.

For context, I have been shunned by my family for 28 years. I never thought it would last this long. I never thought it would start in the first place. My great sin... not conforming. I'm a non-conformist. Politically, I'm an independent... or non-conformist. Religiously, I decided to make my own... that makes me a non-conformist right? I didn't get married. I don't have children. By all social standards, I'm a non-conformist.

Being shunned isn't fun. Being estranged from family isn't that unusual. To be honest, the side of my family in the cult are not healthy people to be around. Their shunning me gives me a great reason not to make contact with them. I do not in any way condone shunning. But I do have to say that I am much better off not being tied to all those unhealthy, unhappy people. And I get to be present in every living moment instead of living for a terrible tomorrow. The consequence of being a non-conformist? Nothing but being happy with myself.

So, my confusion is this. What is so bad about being a sinner? Also, what is the difference between a sinner, a serious sinner, an unforgivable sinner etc.?

Independent thinking, what normal people call "thinking for yourself". If you believe supernatural passages in the bible are true don't kid yourself that you're thinking independently. You may not be captive to an organisation but you are certainly held captive by that book.

Count hubby and me in as being shunned by family and active JWs simply for fading. I believe this is because he had been an elder. He and I were expected to be setting the EXAMPLE as JWs and we did when we were in.

If we we missed a meeting it was noticed. If we missed ALL the meetings... well that was completely unacceptable in their world. Just by being absent we were setting an example in their minds. (a BAD one) They couldn't let us "Get away with it". That is, without it costing us something.

So we are shunned and I'll admit it hurt me but now that it has been going on for over a decade, I no longer miss those people and their conditional, so called, love.

3rdgen, that elder misapplied the scripture from Hebrews 10:24,25 about missing meetings to verses 26 through 29 improperly as being the unforgivable sin. So many jws personally applied this, the WTS had to print an answer to question is missing meetings the unforgivable sin. It is not per the finally parts of the Questions from Readers in the November 1, 1980 Watchtower p. 30-31. Yes,1980. I have found that too many jws disregard or don't notice the correction and continue to apply, deadly if an elder does and makes it a point to be disfellowshipped for.

    ● Does the missing of Christian meetings in itself constitute an unforgivable sin, since, at Hebrews 10:24-29, the apostle Paul speaks of this sin right after discussing the importance of meetings?

Failure to heed the command to attend Christian meetings is serious and could lead to disastrous consequences for a servant of Jehovah. However, more is involved in committing the unforgivable sin…

I am sure that everyone of a certain age can remember 1980-81 when Ray Franz and whole congregations in New York were df'd? Why? Independent thinking. Finding out dates were off, carrying on after book study to study the bible themselves... and on and on.. there was more to the story but we all know the outcome - Crisis of Conscience.

The org is so scared of anyone touting the independent thinking line they disparage anyone who dares to do it. If you do, you do not have Jehovahs holy spirit! You are an apostate! You are no longer a sister or brother!! SIde glances! Rumors!

They lost the "holy spirit" when they dropped him from the baptism question - begs to ask- how did any of the mags and books get written, if not from the help of that spirit? They can spout obey all they want - they are not to judge anyone, only One - or two can do that.

truthlover, many good points; especially the one about the holy spirit being dropped from the baptism questions, being replaced with "spirit-directed organization" While I was researching some other point, I stumbled on that and was stunned.

If we we missed a meeting it was noticed.

I recall meeting a prominent (because he is wealthy) elder while out shopping. He mentioned that he had heard I was missing meetings. I assured him I had not "missed" any of them!

I’d rather be a funny sinner than a serious sinner.

Frankly, I think I’m just better at it. 😊
