What do you mean by 'your grandfathers time'?

His time is your time - your lives overlapped- you are part of the same generation- havent you been paying attention to jw.org??

“the entire 1914/607/adventist root will be discarded.“

could someone explain this a bit more please?

where did the entire 1914/607/adventist root thing start?

I would add to Journeyman’s list the withdrawal of the Tuesday Group Book Study.

Astute comment. In a broader sense, the changes to the format of all or most of the meetings is a big part of the religion's change in the last 15 years. Ministry School, Service meeting, shorter public talk, all of them added together makes the typical meeting quite different

I think "stultifying" is the word you are looking for.

The other big change is how elders have a much easier time than years ago.

There is such a shortage of brothers wanting to reach out that it’s being made easier for elders to try to keep as many as possible

some elders just say no to assignments and the other elders on my body say someone’s got to do it. Yes somebody has to but it’s not my problem

the cost of living crisis and other difficulties nowadays make many elders just say I’m going to be elder in name only and not actually do much at all, just a few easy items every now and then.

mind you all are easy now, no preparation needed at all. I could turn up to any meeting and last min be asked to take a part and just get up there and do it from the material all I need is my phone

the only item that requires a bit of preparation is the first ten min treasures talk. But even that you could turn up unprepared and give it from the material just read the WT provided and look up the scriptures and talk about the pic

then the digging is just q&a

all the student assignments are just saying the sample suggestions in your own words

In the living as Christians part of the meeting it’s also all on rails, just what is in the workbook usually a video and then Q&A.

there is no preparation needed. Life on east street for normal elders.

the joke is how many elders does it take to change a light bulb. None they get a MS to do it and tell him it’s a privilege 🤣

the three on the service committee do have a lot to do, and some MSs have a lot to do but most normal elders don’t do much at all.

they get treated so well, if ever there is a need for it they are bombarded with meals and boxes of treats.

(Proverbs 13:12) Expectation postponed makes the heart sick...

Who was it exactly who drilled the expectation of "the end" into our lives & minds?

Oh right - it was Jesus!

(Matthew 24:36) “Concerning that day and hour nobody knows, neither the angels of the heavens nor the Son, but only the Father.

(Acts 1:7) “It does not belong to you (the "anointed") to know the times or seasons that the Father has placed in his own jurisdiction.

    Love it! 🤣

ExBethelite is so right. At the meetings, elders do little more than top and tail video clips these days. Even the treasures talk is largely directly from the outline in the meeting workbook - all the main points and scriptures are there.

Apart from the public talk (which of course doesn't require any audience interaction), the only item that still requires some proper preparation and attention is the WT study, and that's usually only taken by one or two of the elders (usually the CoBE or one of the other service committee).

(Proverbs 13:12) Expectation postponed makes the heart sick...

To be accurate, Jesus was not the one who's "postponed" the expectation.

He never said "It'll be 1875! Oh no, wait it'll be 1914! No, hold on, it's 1975... etc"

In fact, as you point out, he made it clear that we should not be trying to set a specific time for it. Funny how all these men from Russell right down to today's GB2.0 seemed to completely miss the point there!

I respectfully disagree about proper preparation. I took a look at the WT "study for this Sunday and took the very first paragraph as an example. The title of the article is "Improving the Quality of Our Prayers".

Question #1: What does Jehovah invite his worshippers to do?

Answer: We can approach Jehovah God in prayer. Jehovah invites us to do just that.

Of course some long-winded blowhard will basically re-read the paragraph adding some words (in bold) of their own. Today we have much stress and hard times to deal with so when we find ourselves facing uncertainties we may wonder whom can we turn to when we need comfort and guidance? Because of our Bible education as Jehovah's Witnesses we know the answer to that question. The Bible assures us in God's words that we can approach Jehovah God in prayer. Jehovah invites us to do just that. He wants us to pray often—to “pray constantly.” (1 Thess. 5:17) So we can freely approach him in prayer and seek his guidance in all aspects of our life. (Prov. 3:5, 6) It is so comforting in these times of dealing with this wicked world to know that being the generous God he is, Jehovah places no limit on the number of times we can pray to him. That is why it is important to always work hard to improve the quality of our prayers.

And that is one of the many reasons I became FedUp and why the WT study was so dull and ran overtime every Sunday.

No doubt about it! If Jesus was to appear and look at the then and now, there would not no more "truth". (presupposing He even approved it back then).

The org I was baptized into used the complete scripture in Matthew including the Holy Spirit, not the one today baptizing you into a "spiritually approved version of the Jehovahs Witnesses- who approved them to be the one true religion since Geoffrey Jackson said they org was presumptuous if they thought they were the only true religion in the ARC deposition?

Who said it was ok to sell off all the halls that were dedicated to Jehovah? Did He tell them to do that? I don't think so. Now our hall is going at $500K, many others over 1 - 5 Million.. who says there isn't money in volunteer built halls. Jesus hardly slept, had little clothing, little food. no mod of travel save a donkey and feet yet these 8 human males believe only they have holy spirit- being pampered like kings, controlling every part of everyones existence and allowed to do so because governments and religion are in the same bed, therefore protection, in some states and regions will not touch them with a ten foot pole. Money talks, conscience walks

SO this is not the one I choose back then this is not the one I know now-- I want a divorce, lied to and scammed for my volunteerism, my money, my life.
