Put a guy at the head of an organization that is convinced that he is being guided by god through the holy spirit, and he can't help but get an oversized ego from it. Ray Franz's book made it seem like Knorr and Fred Franz were quite unhappy with the committee approach that the organization adopted in the 70s. Now they had to share that power. Getting promoted to president of the organization must have felt a bit hollow to Franz after that.

I was too young to remember anyone saying much about Knorr, but I can recall people speaking of Fred Franz in reverent tones.

My father always thought it disgusting and wrong that they were virtually worshipped by some, so did I ! I remember Knorr coming to London when I was a young kid, and giving a Talk, a bit of an unscheduled one IIRC, and there was overly long applause when he took to the Platform, before he spoke one word ! Father did not clap AT ALL !

What my father thought in later years, with the Direct Worship of the G.B, he never said, but as person he never changed his mind more than once or twice in his life, about anything.

    PHIZZY:

I’m glad he didn’t clap for this GB person. Your father was a wise man.

The guy on Beroean Pickets has a current video on how Jehovah’s Witnesses have fallen into idolatry and you can guess what the topic is about.. I, for one, never held any GB member on a pedestal and I consider any Witnesses who do to be absolute morons and fools.

TonusOH - “Put a guy at the head of an organization that is convinced that he is being guided by god through the holy spirit, and he can't help but get an oversized ego from it.”

Then, surround him with people who are never allowed to disagree with him, and you can’t help but see increasingly unhinged decisions.

Ironically enough, though, it’s happened to them…

…in wresting power away from Freddy, the Governing Body became Freddy.

My roller coaster ride out of jw.org started with the 1995 generation change. Blood fractions, alternative service, et cetera et cetera. My grandparents told me in 1995 they were not sure anymore about having the truth and died some years later.

Later on JW Pelechia, Jolene Chu and the german historician Dedlef Garbe opened my eyes and jw-media came to light. The double talk and the many lies about jw hystory made my presence in the kingdom hall came to an end. Never felt better!!

A little off topic, perhaps, but back in the day, similar also used to apply to a country's "Branch Servant".

He, too, was always spoken about as if he were Der Fuhrer, Il Duce, El Caudillo, The Big Ratu, Papa Doc or similar.
