Sorry to hear that closer. I never thought I'd see my wife back off like she has. She had to honestly see the negative toll the religion took on me and one day things changed. I know for some it happens, for some it doesn't. But if you aren't happy in your life change can be a good thing. No one should hold on to a toxic situation forever. Hope you find some solutions. -

Most JWs today don't care a whit about doctrine, which is why the GB can flip-flop pretty much anything they want to willy-nilly.
What modern-day JWs care about is how the religion makes them feel. If they are treated well and enjoy the JW experience, it really doesn't matter what the actual beliefs are, for the most part.
This is of course a marked difference from even less than a generation ago, when doctrinal "purity" was valued far more than the social experience.
The GB seems to have caught onto this (or caused it? who knows) and is exploiting it energetically thru JW.Borg and their broadcasts.

There are plenty in my area as well, when I was in they were looked at as spiritually shipwrecked, spiritually immature, drinking milk and not solid food. They go through the motions like this is a guaranty of surviving Armageddon. That's crazier then believing it, in my opinion.
I made the mistake early on when I was waking up to think that a couple we befriended had to know something about ttatt why would they act the way they did, so indifferent. I brought up the ARC/ pedophile issue figured this is a good subject to probe with. Well I was wrong they turned on me and defended the truth like a rabid dog. These are not dumb people just don't care about the doctrine more of a social club. Don't make the mistake of thinking because they are weak or indifferent that they know ttatt.

FMF, thank you for your kind words. I appreciate it. Yes, it's a toxic environment right now. There is substance abuse as well and that's worse to deal with than the jw behavior. He has never lived as an actual jw, regular meetings, field service, etc. He has always been able to lead a double life and puts on a different personality in front of family. Yet he'll still defend the jws because it's the truth....you know, because the society says it is
Very happy to hear your wife is coming around

I've thought about this before.
My wife does does a lot of non-witness stuff which I won't detail here but if the elders found out she'd be in for counseling for sure (pretty much she draws the line at whether someone from the hall will see her; so at home she's 75% worldly). Her conscience must be pretty smoothed over by now. She has spotty meeting and field service attendance as well.
But, she loves Jehovah and thinks the witnesses are 10000000% right on everything.
She's in just enough to never leave because it isn't uncomfortable, she just coasts along knowing she'll see her dead relatives and get to pet panda bears any day.

This perfectly describes well over 50% of JWs in the org. today.

My wife is of the too weak category to ever wake up.
Being a witness is all she knows. She's third generation and is fully convinced that she will see her Nana again, live in paradise petting wild animals any day now as soon as, how she puts it, doesn't know how its going to happen but soon, government is going to turn on religion as and soon as they turn their attention to jehovahs people it is going to be like touching his eyeball.
The same thing her grandmother and grandfather used to say..........dead for 30 years.
The same thing her father used to say.........now dead for 8 years.
The same thing her mother says..........one foot in the grave and another on a banana peel and sliding fast.
It all sounds like pimp talk to me.
If insanity is believing and doing the same things over and over and expecting a different result, I submit that she might be certifiable.

I think it's all a 'fear' thing to me. Such induced 'fear' makes it impossible for indoctrinated people to even think outside the box. -

You both took the words right out of my mouth in describing my husband. For the longest time I thought I was the only one dealing with this type of situation but reading the responses on this thread show me now that I am not alone with this madness!
