OMG!! Luke 10:7--amazing! OK, I want my money back, too. With interest, mileage, and per diem. Not to mention food allowance (those doughnuts add up!).

Bill, who remembers when the WT was 5 cents and books were a quarter.

    Prof,

right after you posted this topic, I emailed my JW brother and asked him, in light of the 1-1-89 WT article, if he was still going out in service. He said he looked up the article in the bound volumn. He said the article said "our day" and didn't know where I was getting this "our 20th century" stuff. I then told him that the WTS changed the wording in the bound volumn.
He didn't believe me. I sent him a scanned copy of the original WT article. I haven't heard from him since. That was a month ago.

Either I'm a confirmed evil apostate in his eyes, or he's doing some hard research and thinking. I hope it's the latter.

that is a very poor excuse coming from an organization which claims to be under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. a writing piece was "approved" in the absence of the governing body? a piece that was to be distributed and read by millions? how careless and stupid can you be? and now you want us to believe your "explanation" and not only that, to call and verify it from people who obviously are on your side as if they will classify you as a liar!! is the Holy Spirit dormant in the watchtower as to allow a person as you described him to be to continue to work in spite of how badly he is regarded among the "brothers? you, as well as every one in the jehovah's witness organization do not even deserve a spit in the face...my saliva is too valuable to waste on scums as JWs. although I would like to point out that many are victims of WT brainwashing and are unable to generate a single thought and realize that they are being imprisoned.

Apparently the Holy Spirit is dormant only when the Governing Body is vacationing in the Bahamas.

The change to the text in the bound volume, CD Rom, is yet another sad example of intellectual dishonesty. The rank and file rightly expect these to be what they purport to be -- an accurate historical record of what was actually published. Add this bit of eviodence to the pile.
On this question, I was told -- since I tossed all my bound volumes into the trash, I have no interest in looking at a CD Rom-- that there's a fine-print disclaimer somewhere wherein the WT says it makes no representation that the material reproduced is identical to that which was orignally published.
    True? Any comment on this?

I last went in field service in 1981. Haven't been since. I guess I was guilty of running ahead of the society. Damn!

    drahcir,

I gave up field slavery in 1994. Just sat down one day and said, "Jehovah, I am NEVER going out in service again, and the elders can choke on it for all I care!" The Almighty didn't dare contradict me -- something about no fury like a woman scorned, I guess.

I disassociated about a year later. Full text of my DA letter: "This is to certify that I no longer consider myself to be one of Jehovah's witnesses." No elaboration; by the time I had reached that point, my reasons were no longer their business!
