I honestly don't see the value of books in todays age other than for self-promotion (ego / vanity publishing) or to monetize content. The web is simply THE best system if you want to disseminate information in the most cost effective way - it's free to access and pretty free to create.
If you think your information is critical to someone's well being, a purchasable book should be an ancillary delivery mechanism only. Different to then things like Crisis of Conscience were published as books were the only viable mechanism to make the information available in a self-sustaining way (and ex-GB member? there's really no comparison).
I guess some people think others should pay them for their time? Up to them. The "fund me" gravy train seems like a popular business nowadays but I don't think every cause warrants it.
It's not a Ponzi scheme though - that would be if backers of the 1st book were promised a share of profits and those came from people donating to the 2nd book who were promised ... (repeat until you run out of people and it all collapses).

One person who wrote a book and wants to write another one. He even admits that his activism is a job to him like how other people have normal jobs. You work a job for money so that you can live your life. I guess he must be making enough for him and his family to live on so he doesn't have to work like the rest of us.

I'm really not the type to suck hole but seriously, after Ray Franz and JW.facts' Paul Grundy I would say that Simon - by running JWD - has done more to educate the world about Watchtower and help support exjw's than anyone else.
If we gave out exjw Oscars or MBE's Simon would be dubbed a Commander of the Apostate Empire.

If you were one of the ones that donated money to this cause, would you also donate money again to aid the publishing of a second book?
No. And I wouldn't have helped in the first attempt, unless I see a business plan, a strategy, a good publishing house, a plan for self-publishing, anything that makes sense, and of course, THE DAMN BOOK! And I have to like it, and I have to be sold on it, and I have to see that the person is really making the right efforts to make the book successful and has a clue of what (s)he is doing.
If others choose to do otherwise, as the saying goes, "Fool me once, shame on you..." Don't some of you ex-jws are fed up with being taken advantage of based on some nonsense story?
