Re: Another New Rule-----You Can't Record Prayers at the District Convention
That's because the prayers are so long it uses up all the tape.
I can't tell you how many times I've heard a tape recorder click off in the middle of a prayer.

I think they wanted the audio turned off during the Bethel tours in case it picked up someone swearing in the factory. No, really, I'm not making this up. I've actually heard this explanation before. From what I heard, the NY factory workers were known to swear more than the average dub was accustomed to. This explanation coulda just been made up, though. I never served at bethel, though some of my family did and that's where I heard the explanation.

Can we download prayers from the Internet?
You've got prayers!

The sister said the Society says we have to shut off the recording if the prayer is being given.
Why the hell would anyone want to listen to a taped prayer?? Wasn't it boring enough when you hear it the first time??

Those that are shut-ins are listening to the tape for the first time. If you're not supposed to tape a prayer, you shouldn't tape the songs or prayers of songs to Jehovah.

The only reason I heard of that a woman was allowed to pray WAS!! there were no spiritually strong brothers in attendance ( only at a book study).. I never realized they did not record prayers. Well now I understand all those years in the Watchtower > I guess God didnt hear that I wanted TRUTH!!!!He wasnt listening to the meetings he only listened to the tapes...Oh He messed up there.

Minimus, I wasn't challenging Blondie. I merely brought the point out that I had been in 'til around '99, can't exactly remember (subconscious amnesia I bet ) and her info was from '93. End of comment. No challenge meant.

It does seem that a number of persons have been told NOT to record the prayer. Whether it's a new rule or not, one thing I do know------It's yet another requirement that a faithful JW has to worry about per the "faithful slave". I'm sure the Society is bothered by the "Lord's Prayer" too....Oh, yes, we can't recite that one either.
