Well...as some of you already know, I have a pet bird (Parakeet). I adopted her several months ago from the Toronto Humane Society. She's come a long long ways since when I first got her.

When I first got her, she was terrified of people.

3 months later, she now hops up on my finger, and will allow me to scratch her head and neck. She really loves it. She also is now playing with toys I have bought for her, and she is singing her little heart out. Loves Aerosmith: so do I .

About 2-3 weeks ago, someone approached me about a poor bird that needed a home.

Leave it to me. I have to be incredibly inquisitive, and find out about this so-called 'orphaned bird'. I find out that this little bird (cockatiel) is FOOTLESS .

Apparently, this bird was placed in a cage with another bird (parrot) and it being territorial etc., attacked the little cockatiel bird, biting its feet off. AWFUL! Poor judgement on the part of the person who did this in the first place.

Now, the nice thing is, the young woman who rescued this little charmer, took him home (university student) and gave him a second chance. He survived the attack, and was well cared for. Sad to say, this young woman cannot have a bird where she lives, and it breaks her heart to give him up.

No need to fear: Rayzorblade is here.

So I am adopting this little gaffer. He's footless, but he can fly, hop about on his little stumps and loves to be handled, held and given loads of love and attention.

So, I will have two feathered friends here at my apartment.

I will post pictures once I have Nihm (NIM) in my midsts.

Wish me luck. Not sure if Baby (parakeet) is going to dig this or not, but I think she'll like the company. Don't worry, both have their OWN cage.

I will give them the best life they can possibly have.

Man am I a sucker or what?

Rayzor, you are just too cool!

Kate and I "adopted" a stray cat that showed up on our patio a few months ago...middle of winter, rain, cold. Kate set up a neat little bed for it (outside, under cover). He's grown fat and sassy. Turns out that he'd been abused (broken front incisor, tail, initial fear of cigarettes [likely from his former owner flicking thier butts at him]). Poor little thing.

We can't have him in the house, because we have parakeets...and that's another story that I'll let Kate tell.

You are so sweet !!! Methinks you should open up a "Bird Rescue" home *LOL* Seriously tho, I think it's great taking in the little darling. BTW...is Nihm from the movie "Secret of Nihm"? (very cool name )

Best of luck with your 2 babies!!

Many Hugs To You and Your "Tweets"

Rayzorblade, this is so nice of you. Poor little bird... People used to give me unwanted or found bunnies, because they knew I had space for them. A lady once brought me a little white duck she found... Not long ago, in early April I believe, I found a full grown goose by the side of the road, on a snow bank. I captured her and brought her home ... she loves it here. She is beautiful. She was probably abandoned by the former owners. People buy chicks and ducklings in May and want to make space for the cuties and don't want the full grown birds anymore.... House owners who happen to have ponds find flocks of full grown peking ducks wandering in their yard suddenly.... also abandoned by the former owners....

I have a soft spot for little critters that need homes too. I adopted our lovely cat when she was an 8 week old kitten, in November 2000. She came from a late litter of barn kitties, and would not have survived the winter if a home wasn't found for her. She was the same size as our chinchilla-gray Netherland dwarf rabbit when we first brought her home. Now she could eat him for breakfast! LOL

    Love, Scully
