Would you have left if you had it into a position of power?

I used to be a MS and stepped aside because I could not stand the wrong teachings (chronology, annointed etc.) and the high pressure they worked unto people anymore. When I stepped aside I also stopped going to the meetings and doing field service.

On the other hand, when I was in I was always longing for "privileges". I have some strengths and talents I wanted to use for Jehovah. And I dreamt I could change something.

Today I wonder what would have happened if I had made it an Elder? Would I be part of the system, getting used to have power over other people?

There are many examples that have left despite a powerful position. But there are even more who stay in just because of their position.

A hypothetical question. What is your opinion?

I think people can leave at any point (look at Ray Franz... he was on the governing body!) But I think it is probably more difficult to leave when you are "higher up"... the peer pressure is even greater.

I am a female so it is not like I could have a higher status anyways.

I was an Elder being groomed for Circuit work. I briefly considered staying in and climbing further, to see if I could make a difference, but...
    ...nawwwww!!!
I DA'ed at the end of my last Public Talk.

I think it takes all sorts, but the few good Elders are getting weeded out and Deleted.
I genuinely feel sorry for those who stay in to appease family members. I'm afraid I couldn't do it, and so suffer different consequences...

well i dont think that power would have kept me in but possibly trying to change things from the inside might have. i know other elders who have left and some get sick of the wrong things that are ordered from above and others do stay in to try to change what they can, or at least try to be there for those friends who truely need them. prolly will be kicked out eventually when they dont aquesce to the borgs orders but everyone has to make up there own mind on there course. i just dont think the power thing would keep people there but i do know a few brothers who well frankly are a$$holes and you can tell there in it for the power but i think thats a minority........ at least in my own ignorance i prefer to think its so. when i was active i did the extra things to help the brothers and sisters and to hopefully serve jah, but i will admit that i hoped that my actions would make sisters notice me lol.... but that wasnt why i did it. the last few years i wanted to run the roveing mikes just so i could stay awake zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

This thread has been viewed 'one time' but there are five replies. I assume there is a bug in the forum software.

Yup.I did after about 20 years as an elder. More than half my life was filled with being a MS or elder. Resigning as an elder was one of the best things I've ever done.
