I've heard this point on this board that the society does not want anyone to go to collage, but if you have a collage education they want you.

You know, growing up JW, I never wanted to pioneer after high school, even though it was pounded into my head all the time.

What I did believe, unfortunately, was the idea that one didn't need college to make a good living. That anyone could do just fine without it. That is was a lie that college is important. That it was really a silly waste of money!

And while I left the JWs as soon as I turned 18, I carried this little bit of misinformation out with me, and it took me years to realize my mistake. L

    (I’m going now.)

When eventually, you can take a blood transfusion, it will be that YOUR conscience is allowing that. When you will be able to celebrate a birthday, it will because now, it's a conscience matter. When you will be able to do something that could have legal ramifications, it will only because now it's a matter of personal choice. It's NEVER EVER the Society's fault or (mis)direction.

When they say it was your choice it is just their way to put responsibility on the victims. The mark of a high control group is they blame the victim. Good thread, Thanks, GaryB

the WTBTS deprived a lot of us (at least IMHO that was the experience in the 70's) of our education and the means to be financially secure. now (some of us) have to work double hard to overcome it. that is the least of it.

Wow. You nailed it for me; the anti college sentiment was SO STRONG in the 60's and early 70's; you were a fool and an outcast if you went to college; it is so dishonest for them to say they never forbid college because they didn't have to, they had CO's drilling it into the elders who passed it down. The bottom line: when you got out of school, you pioneered. Of course, very few actually pioneered; they worked. So the end result is a whole organization of janitors and carpet layers and window washers who didn't go to school cause they were going to pioneer!! The reality is that a higher education helps you to see religion and the Bible in comparison to other beliefs and in it's context, something that is DEATH to high control groups like the WT.

SO: we have a lot of people who not only did not go to school, they DISDAIN it and feel above it!

And people with NO analytical skills to see what a load of crap the WT has pushed for so long.
