Gam.In answer to your post. I aam glad you went to PA in 82.but I have one differance with you ((((hug))) I dont think the folk there are in to religion...( some maybe) I find MOST are into a relationship with Jesus. Of course you will find some who belong to a religion I have talked with a Priest, a Mennonite, Atheists, you will find lots of differant veiws. But the one thing I have in my 14 years seen is LOVE!!!!! Unconditional LOVE! I feel it as soon as I meet with them all ...It really isnt phoney love either. Give it another try....Would like to get a hug from you too ( a give one)
Yiz...are you working? How can you afford to go to an ex-JW convention (especially when you never were a JW) when you live in a shelter? Is the shelter paying your way?
Just curious.....
BTW, how is the job hunt going?

I was living with my mom at the time when I attended the 1990, 1991 1992 & 1993 ex-JW Convention. I had lived on my own after I got back from the private deaf school in Illinois, but mom started having problems mentally and physically that prompted me to move back with her and took care of her. She died the next month after I got back from the convention in November 28th, 1993. I was not living in a shelter during those times. I don't understand how you forgot that I lived in a moble home before I lost my job at Wal-Mart this year?? The job at Shell may call me either today or tomorrow (I hope) and it's on 3rd shift. I hope if everything pans out, I can save enough money to go this year. If I don't get a job before the convention starts, I hope I can ride with Fred & Barb Singleton and Dave & Norma Butler in a borrowed church van like they've done in the past instead of flying. But as far as about meals and a room, I dunno! *shrug!* If I don't make it this year, well, it's not the end of the world. There's always next year I hope. Oh one more thing guys, usually as they have done in the past, on Thursday the day before the convention starts, there will be a Bethal demostration in Brooklyn NY (last I heard they're still at it since 1990) where we will witness, make a voice about their false doctrines, prophecies and so forth. So I am also sure we'll be demostrating about the pedo issue as well. So this will be a great time to try and plant seeds of doubt into the minds of the Witnesses. Yiz

Excellent point. I didn't mean anything negative by "religion." I meant it in the sense of James 1 (religion that is pure and undefiled from the view of God our Father is to look after orphans and widows and to be unstained by the world). We had an excellent time with some very "religious" strangers we stayed with for the convention. We also visited the Cabeens that year. (Some here may know them, they were friends from Bethel.) My experience with all the local Pennsylvanians we met, was that religion doesn't stand in the way of pure worship for them, as it did with JWs. Religion isn't anything to fear in this assembly. My only negative experience was while discussing some issues with Walter Martin and one other ex-JW. That was minor, otherwise it was a beautiful experience full of love and hugs and a lot of understanding. I had tears during one of the talks (by Hickman) because it was specifically about the value of love over religion. Ironically, it was my first "religious" experience.
