    RR,

I'm surprised. While some people might enjoy it for a chance to whine, there's no reason in any association of brothers/sisters not to find opportunities for upbuilding and making new friendships. How different can it be from a place like this where we pick and choose our favorite associates?

    Hi Gam,

I attended one some years ago, it didn't seem upbuilding at all. people hawking their books trying to make a buck. Talks were filled with mis-information [doesn't anyone do research anymore?]. This was suppose to be a Christian retreat for xjw's and they had an athiest leading the vesper service. It just smacked of a big hoax to me.

    RR,

I actually attended two of these, I went back a year later just to BUY a specific book, but didn't spend any time with the sessions. I did spend a little time with the Cetnars and spoke to Duane Magnani. Yes, it struck me as commercial, too, although that is exactly the reason I needed to go on my short visit. I don't think most people care about the details of research -- I don't let it bug me, except when I find out that they purposely ignore real research when it won't sell -- and that was my only negative experience with Walter Martin the year prior.

Using an atheist to lead the vesper service, well, I guess that makes no sense. I won't try to figure it all out. I'd be happy if a wider variety of people are participating, but you are right, it shouldn't then be billed as only a Christian retreat. (I am a Christian Agnostic myself.) Still people who really want to will be able to find their own "Christian" retreat within the retreat.
