John_mann, please tell us where this catholic evolutionary Forum is. I find this idea intriguing as I think cultures do preserve lots of crucial info that is handed down. mind you I don't think any of this ought to be taken literally.
What forum? What idea?
oh perhaps it wasn't you who mentioned it - apologies - I can't be bothered to go and look - it was just a passing comment by a poster who'd gotten fed up with the narrow physicality of science offered by some posters

Yes, this forum is full of followers of the cult of scientism.
Funny thing is the majority of them are not even conscious of being brainwashed by scientism.
the domain/intuition of projecting intentional agency to others does not disappear with science based understanding - it simply refocuses attention - onto biology, onto muslims, onto evangelicals - it is our most excitement/awe building tool - according to Pascal Boyer.
this is the reason I ask for evidence - and then too is the evidence being used to build excitement and awe or is the evidence indicating something very mundane and true regarding muslims, evangelicals - that they are not very different from us.
with this tool (projecting intentional agency to others that some say only religious people have) we know what is in the mind of others - we become mind readers - we know what makes a good muslim, a good evangelical - never mind that muslims and evangelicals come in all shapes and sizes - we have this faculty of knowing and nothing else matters.
Pascal Boyer tells us that this mind reading ability is an inference generator with only small counterintuitive violations. The inferences come from our own backgrounds rather than from actual evidence. we do not become miraculously transformed by our scientific understanding - take scientism for example - some of the best brains at one time held to its tenets - while others opposed it strenuously and this is the reason scientism did not win - a focus on the evidence indicated that scientism was part of our mind reading abilities.
I find Dan Sperber's research more convincing on this subject as he does not restrict his ideas to religious people and to religion but investigates the phenomena of such faculties to everyone
projecting intentional agency to others that some say only religious people have
nobody says that.
"Scientism" is a word used by silly people who fear evidence.
Why?
