ScenicViewer I have pointed out where they have stated that these things are facts. And if you based your estimate on something that you have no actual evidence of how can you make an educated estimate of anything.

Again you are referring to 'estimates,' but you are ignoring the question. Where did anyone say any amount was "an absolute fact?" Those are your words, not mine.

I actually asked Ms Anderson, the owner of Watchtower Documents, about this and she informed me she had purchased court documents of cases for her book she was writing and this is how the court-sealed settlement papers were sent to her.
There you have answered your own question - the settlement amount in that case came from court records that were sent to her. Are you saying B. Anderson is lying? If you are please post your own settlement amounts with proof.
Or are you just grasping at straws?
What is your real point, are you saying the settlement amounts were higher than B. Anderson reports? Or lower? Or that there were no settlements at all? What exactly are you after here? If it is to make Watchtower look innocent in the child molesting affairs you are falling terribly short.

The only statement that says estimate ScenicViewer is the statement by SilentLambs for the Fessler Case. All other statements make a statement that is how much was paid. And again scenicviewer, that one case was settled for that amount, doesn't mean all those cases were settled for the same amount, they could have taken more or could have taken less. You cannot just take one settlement and multiply it by 13 and come up with a number and say that is how much they paid, end of the story, no there is a number of circumstances that come into play when a settlement comes down, including the jurisdiction, proof of actual harm and other matters. So it maybe an estimate to say that but then you have to say it is an estimate.

Why don't you get so butthurt over factual lies that Jehovah's Witnesses tell in their propaganda, not just doctrine, but actual factual lies like omitting information through ellipses? Why only this?.....dubstepped

It can also be a legal strategy on the plaintiff side to just settle or drop the case. Just like in the Lopez case when the plaintiff won the 13.5, which was reversed on appeal, the plaintiff only won that against Watchtower not against the congregation. They still would have had to go to trial against the congregation, but instead of arguing their case they dismissed against the congregation because they already got the money they wanted. So just because there is an out of court settlement doesn't mean it against watchtower in a large sum or even any sum.

One will probably never know the amounts. All we can do is speculate but here's something to think about. The WT is selling off tons of real estate, this to me is an indication that their scared. Scared that their going to loose a big one soon. If they were able to settle these cases for small amounts then I don't think they would be this scared. Another thing to think about is the lawyers. If they were settling these cases for small amounts they wouldn't continue with these cases. It's not cost effective.

RO is actually asking a legitimate question this time. Knowing the amount of one settlement cannot automatically be extrapolated to the other settlements. Barbara checks in here from time to time - maybe she can answer.

Straining out the gnat while gulping down a camel much?

While the amounts mentioned are estimates, all you want is for someone to come out with "yes, us raving apostates could be wrong", so you can feel all smug about yourself. The gnat.

Doesnt all the borgs money belong to yahweh for furthering the good news?

Then why is it being used to settle child rape cases? The camel.

Cant you see the fact something is seriously wrong by the fact that there are so many child rape cases?

Yet all you seem to spend your time doing is straining out a gnat to make you, you personally, feel better about being a dub.

    Childish points scoring...

I remember, not all that well, that the WT would settle sometimes pretty low .......... it looks like now, especially after the Conti case, that there's some real money to be made by the attorneys so the cost of settlements has been going up based on the more recent data, much of which is not going to be available to the public. As the whole purpose of a settlement is to prevent people from knowing the true cost and preserving what little reputation the WTBTS still has.

The basics have now been understood. The two witness rule is a disaster. The Elders are incompetent to handle these Sins Crimes. The Society does not or has not promoted contacting the authorities especially if State laws do not mandate it. While they are capable, on the local level, to report a mugging on JW property or for property damages....the damage done to the JW children is apparently not as important.

The Elders have a good old boy's mind set and refuse, in case after case, to hold a fellow Elder guilty unless the evidence is over whelming.

I think the problem you create for yourself Richard is that the settlement amounts are not really the proof of the pudding, so to speak, it's the life time of damage for the abused children and to acknowledge that the Society, the Elders, mishandled the crime of sexual child abuse.

While you seem predisposed to focus on the letter of the law the rest of us are trying hard not to show up at a condemned pedophile's home with a rope and a chair to stand on.

Does the amount of the settlement matter as much as the fact that a settlement was needed to make this crime go away.....to try and hide it from the public? The Catholic Church played this game until it was all out in public and people started to exit from their church.

The only settlement that counts are the ones that truly hurt the WTBT$.

Go easy on RO: JW organization doesn't want him and so many ex-JWs don't either. He occupies a land of a fantasy mission for which no one thanks him. Like JW organization, he will mouth abhorrence over child sexual abuse. And like JW organization, he will display appalling lack of empathy for abused children and their parents by being able to "see" JW organization's point of view - not that they would know or even thank him, exJW that he is.

He asks questions on this forum about sources when his questions would be far, far better directed to the individuals he breezily names. He says he doesn't want to pick fights. Of course he doesn't. The fights just happen, leaving him perplexed

RO undoubtedly feels unappreciated and alone. It's a tough world defending the indefensible. But he is acquiring a taste for it. He has become the abject excuse-maker for JW organization's patriarchally backward and shameful child-sexual abuse policies and practices.

He doesn't want to pick fights the way the Pope doesn't want to recite the Rosary. Despite denials, he just can't help but pick them.

Richard Oliver: "Doctrine is up to interpretation"

Yes an interpretation that has robbed many people of their money, their lives, their time. An interpretation that has led to the abuse of children all over the world, but I digressed... what matter is the accuracy of the settlement victims got. Who cares about the causes of the settlement, and the damage inflicted to the victims. Right Richard?
