Prisca,
Sorry I did not notice this post earlier Prisca. I hope you notice my response.
yes, from the start the founders of this country were, for the most part, Christian. So the Native Americans were instantly converted, eh?
Weren't the Native Americans there before the white man?
I agree with your feelings on this issue. I am rather angry about the US hypocricy in dealing with the native Americans. They were treated as not fully human, deserving of any rights, because of their traditional cultures.
I see it as being very short-sighted when Western civilisations see world events in purely white man's terms. The land of North America was one of many civilised Native American nations. Quite a history they had. Why ignore it when talking about the "founding" of America? America was already well founded long before the white man set foot on the continent.
When I started the thread "Is the US a Christian Country" I had in mind the US as the United States. Its founders are the writers of the US Constitution. While the "hermitic" thinkers such as Thomas Jefferson may have been sypathetic (I don't know) to native Americans in his time I am not aware of any native American having any input in the formation of the US Constitution. If they had, we probably would not need to discuss this question. Shame, isn't it.
