    Aztec-

As someone already did point out, the question is asking who MY favorite artist is.

I have been to Wylands home, and seen his artwork first hand. The real stuff mind you, not the prints. He is very talented, and has created the most beautiful paintings.

The fact that he has made millions of prints shouldn't matter. Most people cannot afford his originals, and so they prefer to buy a print. Big deal. The fact is that most people cannot afford to buy an artists originals, so they too buy prints.

So the guy is enterprising; he shouldn't be knocked for it.

He also makes incredible sculptures. In fact, my wife and I intend on having him design one with our family surrounded by dolphins, set within a fountain, and put it in front of our home.

I have never been in one of his galleries, and someone come up and think his work sucks. Quite the opposite, actually.

    Yeah art!!

(By the way Rosmarie--I love your brother-in-laws blue painting of the trees, that is beautiful).

Ok, so I must agree with Tink, I am drawn to Dali, isn't it a right of passage that your first apartment have one Dali print? Hee hee!

I have this one hanging over my desk:

    The Hallucinogenic Toreador

I also love J. Waterhouse. I have one of his prints hanging over my bed. (This isn't it, but I LOVE this painting)

    Danaides

I also love art nouveau stuff...so Mucha has always been a favorite.

    Moon

I also like Amy Brown...I know she's kinda cartoonish, but I still really like her, and for a long time I wanted to get this tattooed on me (somewhere-lol)

And I also like Nel Whatmore

    Waves

Oh and about a dozen more...these are just the first few that came to mind.

    crap!

I already forgot one of the main ones.

I love Dale Chihuly. In fact I think I may have to plan a trip out to Washington just to visit his gallaries.

(If any of you get the chance to see his stuff in person--oh man, it's so amazing!)

One of his chandeliers is hanging in the Minneapolis Institute of Art...it's so cool, and each of the pieces is comprised of hundreds of little arms that are all blown seperately (obviously) and then hung together and aranged...it's so damn cool!!

    Freedom,

In some defense of Wyland, I do happen to think that out of the three I mentioned... Wyland is by far the most tasteful. He doesn't get too carried away or guady with his colours.. But creates a nice balance throughout. Lassan sometimes gets a little too 'gooey' if you ask me.. (And I do admire his sculptures! They're great!) ...It's just that to me, Him and those fellow artists he supports in his galleries (he is a nice guy) just don't happen to SPEAK to me though their art on who THEY really are or what they're feeling... Because they keep on with the consistent theme of Oceanlife/beaches/bright skies with stars and so on... Ok, sure, from that - I COULD gather that Wyland likes oceanlife (you think! lol) ...But unless i were to read a detailed account of his life or talk to him personally - I wouldn't have a clue as to who he is or what he feels... Because none of this really comes through in his brand of art, and I guess that for me... this is a really important requirement for an artist to have - for me to relate to him. Ultimately, he ends up creating an art this is a PRODUCT first and foremost... Could you imagine him suddenly changing gears and dumping the whole Ocean-thing, and suddenly doing personal portraits of friends or something like that because he felt like it? For myself, I can't see that... I don't even think it would be possible for him - what would THAT do for his business? No.. He's a bit 'trapped' in a sense by the fomulae\business which he created...

Kinkade on the other hand, really bugs me... And actually I happen to like English cottages and things like that too... and perhaps, If you took one of those pics of his singularily.. they're kinda cute I suppose... But now, here, he's got whole galleries - and they're all full of the same damn picture practically, over and over again.. all with that damn glow-bright paint for the bushes... whole galleries of the stuff... He absolutely says nothing with his work, it's a mass produced PRODUCT.. plain and simple... and lacks in what I think is best in art.. personal expression... But all the same, I've seen people go in there and buy the stuff in droves... so what can you say? If you can fool them into buying it... well then god bless... But that's not 'art' to me... It may as well be one of those damn singing fish for all I know...

joannadandy - Dale Chihuly is fabulous. I don't know anything about him, other than seeing one of his pieces in the symphony building in Hartford. Once you've seen his work, it is unmistakable.

Aztec - *Just waiting for someone is going to claim Thomas Kinkade is an artiste! LOL!*

Thomas Kinkade is an artiste in my book... I've have also read some of his writings, and will confess that early in the healing process it was a blessing of a find. I spent quite a few hours looking at the different ways he portrays light (as well as paints it)... If I had half the aristic talent this man has, I would probably attempt to make a living with it also...
