"But why would I want to let personalities, business, society, and superb knowledge of a subject override my senses... I dont."

Gambit, you're missing my point. Someone can be talented at what they do and still not be an artiste, for lack of a better word. I couldn't paint cute, little cottages to save my life but, art is supposed to be about expression. When you bring in commercialism it is the antithesis of art. His main focus seems to be commercial and egotistical. Maybe he wasn't hugged enough as a child..LOL! If it moves you than it's "art" to you. Just had to put my two cents in cause I've been a bit confrontational as of late. :-)

Funny though.... how Warhol never gets hit with any of that criticism. I think I'd like to shoot him again. That would give me over 15 minutes, cuz I already have about 5 minutes in the bag.

I'm not a HUGE Warhol (less so for Lichtenstein) but I would say that he largely managed to avoid that particular criticism because his silkscreen prints and painting of household items were supposed to be a statement on how he viewed the world of Pop culture and commercialism... In that sense, he made a statement and created an art of sorts that reflected on how he looked on things...

Course, one could argue that that's all a bunch of Mumbo Jumbo... but that's how his work came to be percieved.. along with his comments and writings...

But Kinkade?... what's he trying to SAY exactly with all these samey cottages surrounded by pink and blue bushes? Done Over, and over, and over, and over again?....

"Thanks for the Dough" perhaps? :O)

    And very effectively at that!

I think it's "Jesus loves you. And btw, thanks for the dough."

The witness artist talked about in this thread, Michael Atkinson, had a similarly unique style and interesting technique, very recognizable and "signature" just like Kinkaid. It was amazing the first time you saw it. He also made a factory out of his technique, and while he didn't milk it as well or as long as Kinkaid, he made millions for sure.

San Francisco artist, by way of the Philippines: Glen Sacay

I have seen his work in-person, and now he has a website, which features some of his stuff.

It is interesting, and he's done really well.
