I Samuel 16:19-23
...Saul sent messengers to Jesse and said, "Send me David your son, who is with the sheep"...And David came to Saul, and entered his service, and he became his armour bearer. And Saul sent to Jesse, saying "Let David remain in my service, for he has found favour in my sight." And whenever the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, David took the lyre and played it with his hand; so Saul was refreshed and was well...

I Samuel 16:14

And the very spirit of Jehovah departed from Saul, and a bad spirit from Jehovah terrorised him. (NWT)

Ain't it the truth; that scripture bothered me much when a loyal dub. Now I view much of the Bible as the perception of men as they tried to worship, and it is much easier to accept verses like that.

In very early mediteranean cult traditions the Gods were often seen as "two faced". Even patron gods were understood as quite contradictory and moody. It wasn't until the Persian influence prevailed that the idea of a separate source of evil (Devil,Satan) became in vogue. It seemed to add a new endearing quality to the beneficent god and inspired greater loyalty, so it stuck.

At the defense of JAh, please note that He is the "God of the spirits of EVERY sort of flesh." No one can receive a single thing unless it is granted him from heaven, and also, JAH is the One who had all authority in heaven and on earth. This means that JAH has GREATER authority over the unclean spirits as well as the clean spirits. When a 'bad spirit' is sent from JAH to terrorize one, that does not make JAH bad. It is the SPIRIT that was already bad and JAH sent that spirit from the evil one to terrorize the person who already was bearing fruits of the evil one. JAH is good and JAH protects us from bad. But, when we ourselves are "loving what is bad more than what is good," JAH will send from the evil one a spirit to terrorize such one because he is loving bad. It is not JAH that sent him that is bad, it is the spirit that is bad and THAT spirit came from its father who is also bad. JAH has more authority over the bad spirits than they do. Hence when JAH sends a bad spirit... they comply out of fear.
