Most Witnesses strive to live a double life - that may include "unrated movies", hidden drug abuse, secret alcoholism,

    Internet porn

loooong vacations several times a year

    golf, golf, golf

    wacko therapies/voodoo medicine

diving into some hobby like dog breeding

seeing every last movie that comes out that isn't rated R

anything to distract and excuse themselves from the drudgery

The last year or two that I was attending meetings I was VERY uncomfortable with what I was hearing, and thought of the Kool-Aid scenario more than once. It was a relief to leave that.

This was my experience too. I was actually relieved to learn about the child abuse issue and then the UN fiasco. I could walk away that very week. It used to give me chills, reading the latest Watchtower and having thoughts of kool-aid. They seem to be getting more adamant about undivided loyalty to the Almighty Borg. Scary stuff.

The leadership is well guided by lawyers who veto anything too foolish.

However, the rank and file and local elders are another story....

You gotta remember that they don't come right out and say do or don't, but it's always worded in such a way that the dubs know what the direction is.

I can't see them going out on mass shooting rampages, but I can certainly see them taking some kind of action against "apostates" if the right "direction" came out of New York.

    Ahem......

For those of you joking about going out in field service with guns:

I actually knew a "brother" who carried a loaded Smith & Wesson with him everywhere he went, including while out in field service. Of course, he carried it for personal protection, and not to shoot opposers at the door (or so he said).

At first I thought you said "taking some sort of action against apostates, like in Gangs of New York"!!!! On a serious note, I know people who used to go out of their way to do things if they spotted someone who was df'd.

Just coming back in to re-read this thread.

Ravyn! I certainly hope that you reported that incident to the cops!

I've often speculated about the possibility of the Empire becoming violent. After reading what happened to Ravyn, well now I have no doubt that the possibility is there. Maybe not the whole 6 million of them, but a pretty sizeable number. Even one is one too many when he/she acts in the belief that "the Society said so" and if one can do it then so can many others.

We already know that Brooklyn monitors this board and others like it. We already know that they try to identify and prosecute current members who come here. It would be naive to think that there isn't a database of everyone who is a member here, filled with all the personal info they can get. Maybe some of our techies could help out here, just how much info can they get on those who don't give their names? remember we're talking about some fat checkbooks doing the monitoring.

So just how extreme will they get and what will the info they get here be used for in the future? Here's my personal theory. Like I said, we already know they're looking for current dubs who are members here. If they were to get access to personal info of the membership here, they would definitely use it. They're in a frenzy to root out all dissenters and they're scared to death of the internet. Send word to local bodies of elders that so-and-so is accessing this site. It will become another purge like they had in the early 80's at Bethel. It's getting about time for another one anyway, what better way to scare the hell out of the rank-and-file? And considering the crack-down on inactives, well I'm sure they'll find plenty here. Going any further would be up to the lawyers calling the shots, but like I said before, remember that they are Jehovah's Witnesses and lawyers therefore it should be assumed they're capable of justifying anything.

    Mike.
